Reviewed February 28, 2012

Just got back from our first stay. I was a little nervous after reading reviews here but was glad we booked anyway.
Three couples - two rooms.
303 - moose room. Pros: , bed comfy, spectacular view. Bath updated and shower awesome.
Cons: power issue. Blew a fuse. There was a sign asking not to use the microwave at the same time as the other electrics so I didn't but still blew a fuse. Staff was prompt in fixing.
Superior Condo 8: Pros: nicely stocked kitchen, quiet, great view, outdoor fireplace right outside as well as wood fireplace inside.
Cons: Seemed a little small as compared to the lesser expensive room above. Could use some updating. Also electric in this room seemed out of date, no GFI's smoke det not hard wired etc.

Overall good value for this time of year (Feb). We were next to the pool and did not hear noise. People above and next door also - no noise. I wonder if different rooms have different sound guards.
Lobby area has large comfy seating and fireplace. Computer and Wi-fi also.

Struggle a bit if you want to eat out at a burger type place. Dining options seem limited

Will be back in a month and have a two level condo reserved.

We had the best time this past weekend at Chateau LeVeaux. Our condo, while small, had everything we needed. A gorgeous view of the lake, fireplace, comfy furniture, full kitchen - it was perfect. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and everything was very clean and quiet. We will definitely be back!

We were so surprised by how great this property was. In contract to the other reviews, Our 2+ BR condo was immaculate and decorated in a cute Cape Code kind of way. Our kitchen was fully equipped and out balcony looked out on the lake with a firepit and grill available. The steps down to the lake were in very good shape and we took several jaunts down there. The pool, hot tub and sauna were great. Staff friendly and very helpful, lobby is warm and inviting. We must have been in a newly remodeled wing because we had no complaints at all. and will go back for sure.

All of the units face the Lake and have good, or even spectacular, views. Our unit was clean and, while the furnishings were pretty basic, it was nice - more than adequate for our needs, as we were up there to hike and otherwise enjoy the outdoors. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There are steps down the steep bluff to a rugged, but very scenic beach, with a fire pit. The hotel is right on a brand new biking trail. For hiking, the location can't be beat as you are only about 10 minutes from some of the best segments of the Superior Hiking trail, the Mt. Oberg loop and the Mt. LeVeaux spur.

We had been to the north shore a few times several years ago, and absolutely fell in love with the area. We decided to return for the unbelievable views and sense of calm we'd experienced before. First impression of Chateau LeVeaux - it's inaccessible!!! We are able bodied and that didn't cause a problem for us since we were there as just a couple, but since we have a daughter in a wheelchair, are always aware of that kind of problem. You could not get around without having to take stairs. When we stepped in the dim hallway to our unit, it smelled quite musty, appeared old, and the carpet appeared to have been installed by a complete amateur, poorly done. We were so disappointed after our arrival, to find the view obstructed from our condo unit unless we would go outdoors to see over the fence. We would have been happy to sit out there to relax, read, and view the lake, EXCEPT the biting flies were so bad that we simply couldn't stay out but for a few minutes at a time. We would have expected mosquitos, if anything, and there were none, but we never even considered flies as a possible spoiler to our experience. They would barely move when "shooed" away. Once we realized we were confined indoors without a view while at Chateau LeVeaux, we were again let down by the unit itself. The bathroom was badly in need of repair and updating. When my husband pulled the knob to close the drain on the sink, it pulled out completely, and needless to say, didn't close the drain. The shower head was corroded and the water only trickled out, plus the pipe where the shower come out of the wall was exposed. The towels were badly frayed and some had old stains, and would be thrown into my rag drawer at home, never used for family or guests! The whole bathroom looked like it had never been updated since it was first constructed, especially the sink cabinet. I hated going into the bathroom! The remainder of the unit was mostly OK, but the kitchen towels were mismatched and faded. There was no sofa, but a futon, which I assume was for extra sleep space if more than two people stayed. The trouble with using the futon as a couch, was that the seat area was so deep that it was not at all comfortable. And we were confined indoors while there. The condo unit we were in was on the lower level and I think we could hear every step taken by the people in the unit above us. (Can you say aerobics?) Extremely noisy! We are grateful that "quiet hours" from 10:00 pm until 8:00 am seem to be well observed.
From our understanding, many of the units are available for purchase, and we can see why. Even if you were to purchase a unit and completely update it, the remainder of the property would take away any value. We were unable to take advantage of the sole reason for traveling 400 miles to get there -- THE VIEW!!! We would not recommend this place, nor will we stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for one that's been recently renovated!

My husband and I recently celebrated our one year anniversary at the Chateau, and it was beyond my expectations. Neither one of us had been to the North Shore and it truly is breathtaking beauty!! I spent plenty of time researching places to stay and stumbled across the Chateau. I was a little anxious based on some of the not-so-positive reviews I read, but our cond, Unit #1, was really beyond anything I could have expected. The layout of the condo was very open and inviting. The bathroom has been recently updated and is fabulous. I am kinda picky about bathrooms when I am traveling and this is gorgeous!! The view is spectacular. We were fortunate enough to witness a STUNNING double rainbow the first night of our arrival.

The owners of our particular unit were not around and there was a couple next to us, but we never hear anything through the walls. We did hear the opening and closing of the door to the outside, but that wasn't bothersome by any means. The lobby is lovely and there is wonderful sun/star-gazing deck.

I would highly recommend this location, and specifically Unit #1, to anyone!

Room Tip: I think it is worth your time to look at the pictures on line and call, not request online, which ro...

My wife and I stayed here for a weekend North Shore getaway.

Positives - The view from our 1 bedroom condo is great. The grounds are nice. The size of a 1 bedroom is plenty big for 2 people. The hotel is situated in a good location for exploring up and down the North Shore.

Negatives - Outside security door doesn't shut so anyone can walk into hotel. Room has an odor. Carpet is in bad need of repair with stains and holes. Bed has a big valley in it. Shower goes from extremes of hot to cold so be ready to jump out of the cold blast.

For the amount of money I'd say we won't be staying here again in the future.
