For many years I thought Bluefin Bay was the elite place to stay. We decided it was a good place to stop on our way up the north shore, based on location and Trip Advisor reviews. We were a bit disappointed. The only room which seemed appropriate and was available for our one night was a studio unit. The view was good, but the facility was just OK. It seemed a little tired from what I was expecting. The free use of bikes was great and dinner at the Grille, on site, was very nice.

We shared a three bedroom elite condominium unit just a few feet from the rocky shore of Lake Superior. Our lake facing patio was quite private and it was a great spot for morning coffee and moonlit cocktails. We were fortunate to enjoy fabulous fall weather and spectacular fall colors. Our unit was very nice and well appointed. We found about all we needed and expected to find in the kitchen to make a couple of hearty North Woods breakfast feasts and intimate dinners. The upbedrooms were adequate but not spacious. Some essential bath items were missed by the crew, which is irritating at the prices being charged. The living room (and bedroom) seating was not ideal for TV watching and the TV sound was terrible. But who wants to watch TV when the weather outside was delightful? We did not partake of the nightly s'mores and campfire but our fireplace worked well and added to the overall atmosphere. Firewood was provided, as well as fire starters. We did appreciate the heated outdoor pool and spa, and there was an abundance of quality poolside towels at hand. This seemed like an ideal place to enjoy the North Shoreline up close and also be pampered. Since our party included an older, handicapped individual, this was essential to us and we gladly paid the premium this place commands. If your budget allows, we are sure you will enjoy the place. Be sure to take advantage of the biking and kayaking opportunities if you are up for that sort of thing, as they are included in the rate. If you golf, give Superior National Golf a go, for sure.

Room Tip: We like the northerly annex from the main office, but demand for the hotel is high enough to limit choosiness in prime time.

My husband and I went to Bluefin Bay Resort for our honeymoon and loved it so much we have already booked the same room for our 1st anniversary. The customer service was excellent and what we loved was that they were as hands on or hands off as you preferred. We opted for more hands off so it had the feel of a vacation home vs. just a room. We had a 2nd floor space with a king size bed, wood burning fireplace (they provided the wood and fire starter kit), jacuzzi tub - with all windows facing Lake Superior. The sound of the waves crashing on the shore was our soundtrack the entire time- it was peaceful and relaxing. We also requested a room with a balcony b/c my husband smokes - I also liked it for early morning sunrise photos. :) There were many hiking trails on the resort, in addition to the Bluefin Grill restaurant, which has excellent food!! Their customer service is also excellent - we were amazed at how at home we felt. The wait staff recognize you the 2nd time you go in and are very warm and friendly. Mario was our server for most of our visits and he was great. We liked how we could rent DVDs to take back to the room for a post-dinner movie. It was just perfect and we cannot wait to go back. If I could give 100 stars I would!! Worth every penny. We made some wonderful memories there.

Room Tip: It depends on what you are looking for - for a romantic trip definitely get a 2nd floor room with the wood burning fireplace and jacuzzi. :)

We have dined here from time to time over the years and this was one of our best experiences. We both had delicious soup and tasty fresh fish sandwiches. They were busy but service was cordial and attentive.

Nicely appointed one bedroom efficiency on the bottom floor of their town house unit. Our sliding door opened directly onto Lake Superior. Spent a couple of delightful days drinking coffee (in the mornings) and sipping wine (in the evenings) taking in the spectacular views. We loved our nights, cracking the window and hearing the crash of the waves, while we stayed cozy by the fire :-).
Service was pretty much non-existent, if you wanted any beds made or trash picked up you needed to call and request it. The check in gal could use a bit of personality and or enthusiasm ... but who cares, we loved our stay!
