High Woods Bed and Breakfast
Reviewed September 2, 2013

Having spent a night at the B&B fifteen years ago, for our 25th anniversary, we decided to return to relax and be pampered for our 40th! (where does time go?). We had a wonderful stay and marveled once again at what a beautiful and serene setting they have. Mike and Mary Jo are still as delightful and accommodating as ever. The home is gorgeous and I never could tire walking around the grounds and admiring all the beautiful decorations they have in the wooded area.
It feels very private, even with other visitors around. Breakfast was wonderful!
If they around still operating this for our fiftieth, we may just have to return again. Thanks for a wonderful anniversary!

Room Tip: Richard's room is the largest and has a beautiful view from the windows of the gardens and woode...

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at this B&B very much. My wife is a big birder and there was a beautiful patio garden with several bird feeders which provided a relaxing experience for us when we first arrived at the house. The entire lower level of the home is dedicated to the B&B and was very spacious and quiet. Our room was beautifully decorated, and looked out to the patio garden. Breakfast was gourmet with baked pears, egg bake, and homemade caramel rolls. The hosts Mary-Joe and Mike were very gracious and down-to-earth. We will definitely be returning to this beautiful home again on another occasion.

This is a beautiful home with the entire downstairs dedicated to the B&B. The downstairs looks out to the hot tub and multiple bird feed stations. Wildlife surrounds this property, driving up the long driveway you may see wild turkey or deer. We spent two days in the Richards Room, one of the three available rooms. Outside of the rooms is a living room with a large television, a kitchen with a refrigerator filled with soda and water and the freezer has frosty mugs. The owners were very nice and accommodating. We would definitely return to this B&B which is 2 miles from Wild Mountain.

My boyfriend and I came here for a brief getaway and we had an absolutely wonderful time. We were looking for a place to relax and to be pampered and we found it! The setting is truly breathtaking, I kept repeating out loud, "I wish I lived here!" We felt so comfortable and completely taken care of. The couple who run this B&B are fantastic and charming and they made us feel like welcomed guests in their home and at the same time gave us our space. I can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: We stayed in Richard's room, which was lovely because it faces the back garden. So does Jenny...

High Woods is our new favorite "staycation". An hour or so outside of the Twin Cities, High Woods is hidden back in the forest and surrounded by beautifully landscaped grounds. The location feels wonderfully secluded. If you stay in one of the rooms on the lower level (Richard's and Jenny's Rooms), you have the run of the house's walkout basement. A kitchen stocked with soda and cookies, a big-screen TV and cable and oversized, comfy couches. One of the walls is floor-to-ceiling windows, so there's plenty of natural light and great views of the woods and gardens. There's also an outdoor hot tub that looks fun. We enjoyed meeting Debbie, the innkeepers *male* cat (named by the grandkids), who wanders the grounds. Overall, the innkeepers are amazingly nice. On one rainy night we stayed there, they lent their car to a couple who was also staying who had come in on a motorcycle so they could go into town. Oh, yes, and food is awesome, too. Overall, just a great, great place to hang out and relax.

Room Tip: My favorite room is Richard's Room. Nice view, lots of windows, great bed. Jenny's Room is g...

My husband and I wanted to get away from the Twin Cities without the long drive up north, where we usually like to go. With gas prices high, we thought we could a peaceful get away without spending so many hours in the car. We found that at High Woods and were pleasantly surprised at the level of hospitality shown by the owners. They took care of every little detail and went above and beyond (greeting us by name when we arrived, resetting the outdoor fire pit for the 2nd night, placing a lovely treat on the pillow at turn down and offering coffee and soda throughout our stay and so much more). Our stay there really makes me not want to ever go to a hotel again. We spent time in the hot tub, at the patio, watching the chickens lay eggs in the hen house, watching an assortment of birds, playing board games and just relaxing. The breakfast was candle lit and the food was excellent. Mike and Mary Jo make a great pair of hosts. There are a few winery's in the area, so we got out to enjoy some wine and excellent food from local chefs as well.

Room Tip: We stayed in Richard's room. It was the best selection in my mind because the private bath was r...
