“Amazing, restful getaway”

High Woods is our new favorite "staycation". An hour or so outside of the Twin Cities, High Woods is hidden back in the forest and surrounded by beautifully landscaped grounds. The location feels wonderfully secluded. If you stay in one of the rooms on the lower level (Richard's and Jenny's Rooms), you have the run of the house's walkout basement. A kitchen stocked with soda and cookies, a big-screen TV and cable and oversized, comfy couches. One of the walls is floor-to-ceiling windows, so there's plenty of natural light and great views of the woods and gardens. There's also an outdoor hot tub that looks fun. We enjoyed meeting Debbie, the innkeepers *male* cat (named by the grandkids), who wanders the grounds. Overall, the innkeepers are amazingly nice. On one rainy night we stayed there, they lent their car to a couple who was also staying who had come in on a motorcycle so they could go into town. Oh, yes, and food is awesome, too. Overall, just a great, great place to hang out and relax.

Room Tip: My favorite room is Richard's Room. Nice view, lots of windows, great bed. Jenny's Room is g...

My husband and I wanted to get away from the Twin Cities without the long drive up north, where we usually like to go. With gas prices high, we thought we could a peaceful get away without spending so many hours in the car. We found that at High Woods and were pleasantly surprised at the level of hospitality shown by the owners. They took care of every little detail and went above and beyond (greeting us by name when we arrived, resetting the outdoor fire pit for the 2nd night, placing a lovely treat on the pillow at turn down and offering coffee and soda throughout our stay and so much more). Our stay there really makes me not want to ever go to a hotel again. We spent time in the hot tub, at the patio, watching the chickens lay eggs in the hen house, watching an assortment of birds, playing board games and just relaxing. The breakfast was candle lit and the food was excellent. Mike and Mary Jo make a great pair of hosts. There are a few winery's in the area, so we got out to enjoy some wine and excellent food from local chefs as well.

Room Tip: We stayed in Richard's room. It was the best selection in my mind because the private bath was r...

My husband, daughter and I recently spent four nights at High Woods while attending classes at Hazelden. We had looked at several other locations before deciding on High Woods and we were happy that we chose them. The couple that runs the B&B are extremely friendly and strive to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. They allow you your space and privacy, but also engage and provide recommendations if you want. We wound up having a great time interacting wtih them, but it was our choice as we could have just as easily went about our time there privately as well!

We booked two of the rooms and they did not disappoint. The beds were extremely comfortable, everything was neat and clean and the common areas of the home are extremely well-kept. To top it all off-the breakfasts were phenomenal! Each day there was something new and delicious. One day we happened to mention we liked apples and the next day there was an amazing apple cinnamon muffin accompanying our meal. I'm sure they would accommodate your food preferences if you let them know, but we more than enjoyed the breakfasts they served because we never would of thought of some of the great foods they made! In addition, the surroundings are beautiful. You can experience natural wildlife while in the comforts of a hot tub. We saw rare birds, bear tracks and even a chicken coop!

Overall, a great experience and we highly recommend this B&B !

High Woods Bed and Breakfast is in a beautiful setting. Wooded and peaceful, high above the nearest road. The house is gorgeous, with our room on the walk-out lower level. The patio was large and shaded.
Everything we needed or would have wanted was available. The bed was comfortable and the shower nice. (two important necessities for us)
The breakfast was large and delicious. The hosts were pleasant and we would be happy to go back again.
The only negative, was the price. I thought we paid a 'bit' more than other places we've been, that were just as lovely. We stayed on a Sunday evening, which is less expensive at many other establishments. All three rooms were the same rate. They did offer a 'no breakfast' option, if one is interested in that.

My wife and I stayed at this wonderful spot in the forest high above the St. Croix river valley for our anniversary. The owners are two of the nicest folks you could ever hope to meet, their laid back nature and sense of humor just added to the feeling of comfort all weekend. They treated us with kindness, respected our privacy, and catered to our every need. We treasured the beautiful views, the surrounding nature, the outdoor hot tub under the stars and the the access to the river and quaint town of Taylor Falls nearby. They served us an incredible breakfast and sent us home with a wonderful memory of time very well spent. We will definitely be back for more R&R in this High Woods retreat!

Having been given a gift certificate, for our anniversary, to stay at High Woods, we are thrilled to say it is a beautiful, charming bed and breakfast. The owners are friendly to visit with, but not hovering. We felt we had privacy to enjoy our time together and didn't feel like we were being watched. The rooms are gorgeous, the bed was great...wished I could have brought it home with me! Breakfast was delicious and the company we had while eating was pleasant. Having stayed at B&Bs in the past, I can vouch it is one of the nicest ones we've been to. We would certainly entertain returning, in the future, for another special weekend. I just wish it was closer to where we live :)

My husband and I would never stay here again. The owners disappeared by 7PM and could not be reached with questions. Little information was provided to us about how the place ran, and then we were reamed by the owners through email the next morning. Ruined us on bed and breakfasts.

We are very sorry you feel Bed and Breakfasts are not for you. We do try to give our guests privacy and feel badly you felt we were not available. We have an intercom system for guests to use but if we are outside, we may not have heard you. We do try to keep notes to a minimum as most guests find them annoying, and we give guests verbal information upon their arrival, answering any questions they may have. Our email inquiry to you the next day was regarding the liquid soaking a couple of the pillows and the carpet. We wish you would have told us before you left about the "accidental spillage" so we could have properly cleaned it up right away.
