“Great B&B Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2004

The facilities, service and food were exceptional. This is the place to go to experience the life style of the Midwest lumber barons in the 1890's. This Victorian mansion has been lovingly restored and enhanced for the guests' pleasure. Tom and Sandy have the personal touch to make you feel "at home". Breakfast with them is elegant and gormet. The town of Stillwater, MN on the St. Crouix River offers great antique hunting and outstanding rare books stores. The short drive from Minneapolis/St. Paul is well worth the trip.

We just returned from the William Sauntry Mansion & it was awesome. The room was just beautiful & very comfortable. Tom & Sandy, the owners, were so nice & breakfast was delicious. They had wine & a snacks for us when we arrived. The porch was so relaxing & comfortable. We spent alot of time there drinking our coffee in the morning & wine in the evening. The town itself is also beautiful. We would definitely go back & stay longer. It was a great trip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks to Tom & Sandy for a wonderful time.

We stayed 4 nights in three different rooms. ( Sauntry Sampler plan ) All were great, each with it own personality. Tom and Sandy were great hosts, breakfasts were wonderful and the history was very interesting. We will surely go back.

The William Sauntry B&B is a great place. We have been there twice and we were amazed both times.

Imagine be greeted upon arrival with wine, cheese and snacks (all on the house), and having the option to sit around in a luxurious victorian style living room (one of 3 or 4 in the house) while sipping wine and chatting with other guests. Tom makes the rounds and gets to know everyones names... You can browse menus from local restaurants, and everyone seems to gravitate towards a discussion about where they will be dining in Stillwater (One of our favorites is the Dock Cafe-- ALWAYS good).

The next morning you experience a multi-course meal with the folks you met the night before. Tom usually shows off his ability to remember everyones names by going around the table and introducing everyone to each other. Tom knows everything about Stillwater-- although, he will claim that the guy who REALLY knows everything is the florist.

Lots of character, charm, and run by the best in the business.

If you want to go where you know you will enjoy it- stay at the William Sauntry.

Our five children, led by our youngest reserved two nights at the William Sauntry Mansion for our 45th Wedding Anniversary and an extension of Mothers day. We stayed in the Madam LaFuregy suite. What a great experience with Tom and Sandy as our host and hostess. What down to earth, young people yet masterful chef's and experienced historians. We were given a complete tour of the mansion replete with history. The recommendations for sight seeing and dining establishments were superb. The cuisine was far beyond that expected and the down to earth hospitality was greatly enjoyed. From the full breakfast dining experience to the wine selections, we will be back!

We were away in Minneapolis and the surrounding areas for business, and we knew we would desperately need a break after the work. I found the William Sauntry on line, here, at this very site from previous reviewers. So I am pleased to be writing a 5 star review for the next lucky patron.

The house is beautiful and very old, in a cool way. It is atop a hill, and a pretty stoll leads you into town (the way back is up the many steps but it is over before you know it).

The Joseph room was amazing. The bed was positioned so you could look out a window across the way in the wood paneled bathroom, and it would provide scenes of the day. The light would change. It was magical. AND this room has the super shower from Sweden. I tell you, this thing is amazing. You have to experience it on your own, I would not want to spoil it. There is also a very comfortable jacuzzi tub.

We had to leave for the airport when breakfast was served downstairs, so the owners made and delivered us a 4 course breakfast outside our door earlier. There was a knock on the door about 8:30 and the food was there in a basket, but no one was there. They really want to give you your privacy.

I thought the Sorrento Hotel in Seattle was my favorite hotel so far, but I think this place may have them beat.

Not having a good idea except for the internet infomation of their website we were absolutely blown away by the Butlers Cottage. Very private and romantic with the whirlpool bathtub and fireplace. The four course breakfast that was wheeled to our door each morning was the best we have had at any bed and breakfast. Tom and Sandy were very gracious hosts and answered all of our questions. An excellent place to sit on the porch and watch the world pass you by. I can hardly wait to return.
