“Wonderful fun getaway!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 9, 2009

The service was excellent! Everyone was very friendly and accomodating. Our room was very comfortable, big, and cozy! We had a sitting room and fireplace. The location is great - right downtown Stillwater and overlooking the river. The food at the Water Street Inn is excellent. If you could be there for their four-course on Wednesdays, I would highly recommend it!

I stayed one night for a business trip and was very impressed with the charm and historic character of this hotel. My room was generous in size and appointments. For a business traveler like myself that is tired of the chain hotel monotony that is the same in every city, the Water Street Inn is a welcome relief. I will definitely be staying with them again, hopefully when the weather is warmer to enjoy the outdoor patio overlooking the river.

Spent a winter weekend in a friendly and relaxing atmosphere. Used the spacious banquet facilities for a family function catered by the hotel. Catering staff were gracious and efficient. Also, ate in the dining room, which provided superb service and nice atmosphere. The food was great in both the banquet facilities and the dining room.

Entertainment in the lounge was great, appropriate for family.

Room accomodations were nicely appointed and spacious. Great views of the river, even in the winter.

My husband and I live in Stillwater, so we've seldom stayed in any local hotel. The Water Street Inn happens to be one of our favorite restaurants--especially Charlie's Irish bar where we enjoy stopping in for a pint of Guinness and appetizers on the weekends when they have live music--so we're on their email list. Last week the WSI sent out an email with a special "today only" room rate that we just couldn't resist. So we packed our bags and drove down right after work. Our lovely 2 room suite had a Victorian feel with a four poster bed, electric fireplace, private balcony, marvelous views of the river, Lowell Park and the historic bridge, a double whirlpool bath, a separate shower and a TV. We relaxed with a glass of wine on the balcony while we watched boats on the river, pedestrians in the park, and traffic on the bridge. As it started getting dark, we went down to the nearly full dining room and were immediately seated. We ordered the Wednesday night special 4-course wine dinner for $30 per person. Our dinner was delicious, with portions that were just right and wines that were perfectly paired with each course. Our server was knowledgeable and observant, and gave us time to enjoy each course without being rushed. That Wednesday dinner special is a VERY good value that we will take advantage of again!
Our room was spotless and I like that they have glass tumblers in the hotel rooms, electrical plug-ins in the bathroom (I always bring a nightlight), lots of parking, they're within about 100 feet of the St Croix River and right in the middle of downtown Stillwater so you can walk around and enjoy the river, people watching, or shopping in the interesting and varied stores.
We had a lovely evening that we won't soon forget.

Stayed 2 nights in Bridgeview suite for our anniversary. The entire room was dusty. There was a moldy hole in the bathroom ceiling. Towels were old and crunchy. Bedspread was very old and worn. Very charming hotel and resturaunt. Its too bad the owners don't take care of it. Highly recommend you NOT stay here.

Stayed in the "vault" "suite", room 318 with my husband for 4 nights. I feel we were really mislead about the charm of this room. LOTS of traffic on the bridge all day and night and very loud. Room was creepy dark, even with the lights on. Fireplace is oddly situated - had to sit on the floor to enjoy it. Tacky , psuedo victorian decor. Wallpaper peeling. Holes in wallpaper were pictures had been hung. Tacky rummage sale pictures oddly placed in room - maybe to cover holes? Low end linens and fixtures. Entire hotel looks shabby and rundown. Front desk staff unprofessional in appearance and actions. Odd arrangement of plants under tacky light in main stairwell. Food in hotel is just average. Menus were gross - never wipped off and sticky. Refused to touch mine.

Way overpriced for what you get. Stay somewhere else.

We loved Stillwater and will be back - just plan to stay elsewhere.

My husband and I stayed at a suite at the Water Street Inn for a weekend getaway. We were initially disappointed with the accommodations as the towels and bedding were extremely old and threadbare. That evening we also found out that the walls are paper thin. There was a wedding and drunken guests were screaming obscenities at 2:30 in the morning. A fight also broke out in the hallways outside our room. We called down several times but the phone was never answered. To make matter worse, they offered to comp the room the next morning, then charged us two days later. Please choose someplace else to stay.
