A wonderfully relaxing stay....the drive (I recommend a 4wd) was great, and the views spectacular. Lots of kangaroos and birds, and a short walk to see a seal colony playing in the water and sitting on the rocks. The house was well appointed with everything you need, just bring food.
A very enjoyable long weekend...I would thoroughly recomend
My wife and I stayed here for the first four of our nine nights of our Kangaroo Island honeymoon.
We couldn't have been happier. We enjoyed the views, quietness and wildlife. kangaroos and wallabies are easily seen around dusk and the seal colony a short walk along the cliff top was about 50 strong.
Everything worked as planned. We had been concerned that managing the wind turbine would be technical. But this was easy; turn it in on arrival by flipping the lever and making sure it was off when it got super winding.
We would highly recommend a 4WD if you come here. We wouldn't want to attempt the trip in a regular car.
We stayed at Cape Hart for two nights and it was absolutely worth it. The house is sitting on the cliff and therefore you have no choice but to enjoy the spectacular views no matter where you look. Cheese and wine on the balcony is a must. It was so relaxing and peaceful. We loved watching seals from the private spot and kangaroos in the back yard. KI is beautiful but Cape Hart made it special and memorable. We can only recommend.
Ross & Sandra -Queensland. Our 1st stay last year was 5 nights(not enough) This year we stayed 11 nights+ 2 (ferry cancelled because of weather). Fantastic! The house is very good with a good range of appliances. The isolation is amazing a perfect place to unwind.During our stay at Cape Hart we did not see another person. We are missing the views, wind, surf, seals, eagles, kangaroos etc.etc. We experienced days of wild weather which only added to the enjoyment. Road in is perfect!

A slice of true wilderness, simply superb ocean views and a very comfortable eco friendly house. From the moment we hit the track in, we knew this would be a really special adventure and a real privilege to have our very own exclusive part of the wild coast overlooking the southern ocean. Wish we'd booked more than 3 nights ! Our RAV4 handled the track no worries.
Cape Hart Wilderness Retreat was very unique and nothing like we had stayed in ever before. You feel like you are totally away from the rest of the world and a great place to rest, recharge and relax. This is a place I would recommend to friends.
We stayed for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our time at Cape Hart. The accomodation and ammenities where simple, but great and very comfortable with endless ocean views - you also get to experience a wide range of wildlife including kangaroos.
The only recommendation would be to make sure you have a suitable car to navigate the bush track to get to the retreat. This is a 9km bush track, off a dirt road, that really requires a 4WD. We managed to do it in a Commodore but is a very slow drive when you want to go and explore.
Overall a great break, at a great location, that certainly refreshed us both.
We had the most relaxing holiday exploring this enormous wildlife reserve. The ocean views were amazing, especially marvelling at the stairway effect of the moon rising over the southern ocean each night. There are walking tracks throughout the expansive private wilderness and tasteful signposted points of interest. The private seal colony was a real treat and we were careful not to disturb the beautiful creatures in their natural habbitat. We loved our evening walks spotting kangaroos, wallabies and echidnas. Also during the day the eagles soaring above were majestic. The house itself was very cosy and fully equipped. We'll definitely return for another stay.
