This is a distinctive institution that at this point is not a sit down and order restaurant. You go through a line. The food is very tasty. The spimoni is wonderful and the baked goods are great. This family owned place has been around for a LONG time because food is so good. They do have a top floor where you can sit and eat. They have salads and traditional meat and pasta dishes.
Many people pick up food and take it home (or to a park, on a lark).
Don''t expect fancy. Food prices are moderate.

A must stop in Saint Paul, especially for any hockey fan. It's been newly renovated to add more space and make for a more comfortable dining experience. Before that though, it was a classic and staple for any trip I made from the suburbs of Minneapolis into Saint Paul for a big time hockey game, be that the MN Wild, WCHA Final 5 or the State High School Hockey Tournament.

Cossetta Sandwich or Italian Sausage sandwich are a must try. Remember to come hungry.

We ate at Cossetta's on 13 Nov 2012. We've always liked their red sauce and the pasta dishes; they don't throw handfuls of sugar into the sauce. The market is still in the process of being remodeled and is temporarily in the basement; we did not visit it. The remodel of the restaurant side is mostly done. The restaurant remodel does offer more space for those waiting in the food line than it did before. But there are still only a few main-floor tables--and they are TINY. There were only two of us dining, and we had only two main courses, two beverages, and a salad to share, yet my husband had to put his drink on the floor. (NOTE: there is now an elevator to take diners upstairs where most of the tables are located, and these tables are larger.) The food is much the same as before, basic pastas and good, thin and floppy-crust pizza, the kind that bends. But the food is over-priced. Our two entrees (one slice of pizza and a portion of lasagne), two beverages, and one small Caesar salad came to around 35 bucks, which seems like a lot for pasta and pizza served in a cafeteria line and eaten with plastic cutlery off plastic dinnerware.

We really enjoyed this restaurant. The salads, sandwiches and pizza were great. It was a cafeteria style restaurant. They also had an Italian deli with wonderful homemade bread.

My wife and I ate at Cossetta's on our way to a concert at the X-Cel Energy Center in St. Paul. We had not been able to make reservations at the restuarant I really wanted and so we went without a plan for dinner beyond seeing what we might stumble across. Cossetta's was right there, basically about a block away. While it is not fancy (plastic plates and utensils), it was convenient, casual, fast, and the food was good. It was great to see the variety of patrons: all ages, apparently most socio-economic classes, students, families, couples, etc. We ordered a salad, chicken marsala, baklava, and some other small dessert canneloni's (or something like that). So, it worked for us. Next time, I think I'll bring the whole family.
