My husband and I have dined here many times but this was the first visit for my husband's parents. We've always enjoyed the food, atmosphere and service here, but this weekend's meal was especially memorable. My mother-in-law and I both ordered the salmon. She is picky about fish and declared it "perfection!" It was fabulous and paired with delicious caramelized cauliflower. The ribs, as always, were fantastic, the beef tenderloin was prepared perfectly and our salads and desserts were very good.

The setting is cozy for date night, welcoming for girls' night out, and extremely comfortable and impressive for entertaining the in-laws.

Food was fantastic as was the preparation of the steak and entire dish.
The place is small which is nice, the wait staff was great. Just enough attention and information.'
They also have a pour fee is you want to bring your favorite wine.

Usually when a place goes through a change of ownership, one of the first casualties is the menu. That is not the case with the 128 cafe. Jill Wilson the new owner of this gem was a former employee who was wise enough to know" If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it". Ian Pierce, the chef who was on board with the previous owners, is still doing it right. Take a menu that changes with availability of fresh ingredients, partner that with a legitimate contender for the best baby back BBQ ribs in the city, then you have a serious "date nite" option. Also this place has a cozy feel about it much like you were entering someone's home. Add a wait staff that is "on the money" when it comes to being gracious and making a visitor feel welcome, regardless if it's a regular or someone who saw this place on Groupon(like me) and decided to give it a whirl.P.S. the tiramasu with coffee-rum sauce will"goose" your taste buds. And it's a real slice of heaven, not the usual width of a deck of cards. So if you're on the hunt for a quaint spot for a night out, give this place a try. Parking can be a bit of an issue since it's next door to the College of St Thomas. But it's worth it.

i enjoyed my visit to the 128 cafe in st paul minnesota. i had passed by it for a long time and never really had the occasion to dine there.

a business meeting had ended and it was suggested we dine at the 128

it is a cozy place, like walking into someone's house, albeit a very well kept house. it has a very homey feel to it, not like being at a high end restaurant, but more like being at a rich friend's dining room.

the service is good and everyone quickly was attracted to the ribs - the food was very well prepared, and especially tasty. the portions are perfect, not to much, but good. the wine selection was appropriate for the occasion and the atmosphere was excellent in spite of feeling a bit closed in. the restaurant has no apparent view to the outside so it is almost as if you are in a basement.

i think it would be best enjoyed in a special romantic occasion.

4 of had an enjoyable dinner. While 2 of us really enjoyed the ribs, the wives where slightly disappointed in their choices. The "sauce Raifort" with the scallops was a little over powering, as was the Tasso on the Fresh Fettuccine. My wife thought the Organic Mixed Greens with strawberries was very good. She did have the dressing on the side. Wine was good. While wine selection is limited, it is adequate. Wine prices are reasonable. Service was excellent. We will go back.
