There is no downside to visiting Como--it's in a park with a conservatory and it's free! It is a very manageable size for kids.

This zoo is a landmark for any kid who grew up in the Twin Cities.
Bringing my nieces is just as fun for me as when I was visiting when I was a kid myself.

The zoo and conservatory are free although they accept donations. We did not go to the zoo but to the conservatory. There were a lot of people on a Saturday afternoon and we went 2 hours before closing so were very surprised about that.

The conservatory was very nice. Lots of plants and ferns and it was warm on a 27 degree day. The bonsai exhibit was open but the Japanese garden (I'm assuming because of winter) was closed.

You can take pictures as long as you don't impede the foot traffic. No "posed" or tripod pictures are supposed to be taken.

Overall, very nice. We'll be going back on a warmer day when we can also see the Japanese garden and visit the zoo.

We stop here every year when we visit. For a smaller zoo, this one is awesome and it is FREE; we like it better than the main zoo. Only a donation. What a really nice place to visit and see! Great kid's play/ride area that is seperate...and don't forget the mini-donuts :) Polar Bears and Giraffes!! The Como Park is really nice as well.

This is a Minnesota gem! If you are spending time in St. Paul, please do not pass this by! The zoo and conservatory is free... however, there is a donation table; please donate as your dollars support this venue. The Conservatory is amazing with different types of indoor year round gardens, it is a breath of fresh air any time, but especially nice in the winter. I love the Conservatory in the summer with the scent of lilies blooming. The zoo is well maintained and a great attraction. There are open exhibits and animals have good outdoor enclosures, and it seems the zoo is doing a good job of making the exhibits better for the animals. There is a Como Town ride attraction that requires tickets for kids, but reasonably priced; be sure to visit the carousel! Also a benefit for families are the numerous picnic areas surrounding the area. You are welcome to pack a picnic lunch, bring a cooler of pop and water and enjoy a picnic with your family. All in all, a good day is in store at a pretty reasonable price! A great family excursion.
