Just wanted to add that Liz is just a wonderful hostess and manager. You really could not ask for better customer service. My husband and I were just delighted with her attention to detail, kindness and professionalism. Enjoy your stay!

My mom, dad and I stayed here while I was in town for business to try something different. We really enjoyed it! Far better than some fancy hotel downtown. We reserved the Pilot House Suite and I slept up in the wheelhouse on a fold out couch and my parents stayed downstairs. Worked out perfectly. Liz, the owner and innkeeper was very nice and helped us with all kinds of local to dos.

Room Tip: The Pilot House Suit is great because you get the wheelhouse and upper deck to yourself.

As a surprise for my hubby, I booked the Pilot House Suite at the Covington Inn and he totally loved every minute. This tug boat moored on the south side of the river across the Wabasha or Robert Street bridges, close to Harriet Island, was converted to a restaurant and then into a bed and breakfast that combines nautical with fun and comfort. As we stepped aboard, I knew we were going to love it. Even though the weather was dubious (dull and damp), the Mississippi River was alive with wonderful views. We entered the breakfast salon with LIz, our host, who then showed us up a winding staircase to our suite. Our cozy bedroom was filled with everything we needed, including a fast responding fireplace that added extra cozy! The bathroom was right off the bedroom, a narrow room with shower, large stainless steel sink and all the amenities. The best part came next: up a narrow metal staircase to the pilot house with 360 degree views of the river, park and downtown St. Paul. Amazingly, as we unpacked and relaxed here, the clouds cleared and out came the sun. We were able to enjoy sitting on the deck, right outside our room, watching geese, small houseboats, and a variety of water birds right in the heart of the city! We left to find somewhere to eat and found ourselves wanting to rush back so we could enjoy every moment of this unique place. There are other suites available: the river room is at water level with portholes and cozy nooks, the mate's quarters is a smaller room but still very nice, on the same level as the breakfast salon, and the master's quarters is on the second floor accessed by the spiral staircase. As darkness fell on St. Paul, we enjoyed looking at downtown lights, watching train, river and road traffic in the distance. No noise, completely tranquil. In the morning, we saw kayakers paddle by in the quiet of an early Sunday. We then enjoyed a wonderful breakfast with orange juice, coffee and a platter of deliciousness: sausage links, french toast, caramelized apples, bananas, fresh strawberries, blackberries and a large dollop of fresh cream on top. In her mariner hat, LIz exudes energy and a love for her boat and the city. This is not a froo-froo b&b - it is a place that takes you back to an earlier time when this hard-working tug pushed petroleum boats up the Mississippi. It provides all you need and more for a peaceful stay and will prove to be a most unique experience you will talk about. The Covington Inn has received awards such as "Best Kept Secret" and has been featured in travel magazines around the world - and we can see why. Highly recommend to everyone, book the Pilot House Suite where you can sit up top and watch the world go by.

Room Tip: All the rooms are great. In the river room, you will be at river level and able to watch ducks floa...

We stayed for our wedding night in June! We were delighted to have the whole place to ourselves, which meant we got a free upgrade. The multi-level sweet is spectacular! We enjoyed a perfect romantic evening together followed by a delicious breakfast. Everything was perfect!

Literally on the water - it's a converted tug - in the center of St. Paul. Who would believe sleeping on the Mississippi could be so calm? Four very comfortable rooms/suites, each with a great gas-fired fireplace and bathroom. Even outside decks - not really needed in January, but they would be fun to enjoy in the summer with great views of the river and downtown St. Paul.

Topped off by an excellent breakfast, complimentary mini-chocolate bars in the cozy and comfortable sitting room.

Best news - No TV in the rooms. I didn't even ask about wifi!

My partner made to booking and kept it a secret... I wondered as we walked along the riverfront when we'd see the Covington. Then she pointed at a converted tugboat. I was surprised, and delighted.

This is a quiet place, on the river across from downtown St. Paul... in the city, but a bit apart. It would be a great place for a personal retreat. The hot breakfast was tasty, coffee plentiful, and ambience cozy (there are only four guest rooms). Rooms were surprisingly spacious, except a bit nautically compact in the bathrooms. Windows lack screens, which might be an issue in the warmer months. Furnishings were comfy and clean.

Room Tip: Wheelhouse 2-level suite isn't worth the premium, the Master's or Mate's rooms are just...

The Covington Inn is not a link in a chain of hotels. It's unique -- a 66-old-tow boat docked on the Mississippi River across from downtown St. Paul. But what a tow boat! Gutted down to the studs and refurbished with care and good taste into four cozy bedrooms, each with a fireplace, bathroom and access to outside decks, the Covington Inn is unique, quirky and thoroughly delightful. Robust, delicious breakfast is served mornings in the main salon. The river has its own way of waking you up at the Covington Inn, and putting you to sleep at night. Smooth, graceful and quiet. Charming decor, cozy beds and couches, picturesque views from the decks. And an American bald eagle in the trees overlooking the scene.

Room Tip: The Pilot's Suite consists of a bedroom and a separate, larger sitting room up top with a privat...
