We wanted to see a couple of their exhibits starting with the "Greatest Generation." This exhibit was so interesting that we spent our entire time there and never got to see anything else. We'll have to go back on your next trip to MN. Be sure to see the film presentation inside the troop transport carrier--very realistic.

This history center is well-run, classy, and interesting. Recent cutbacks have been felt by all MN history sites but the center strives to minimize the impact. I recently saw the US-Dakota War of 1862. Very interesting. Lots of reading though.

Very well done hands-on exhibits. Appreciate the "live" theater or films they have highlighting some of the more famous Minnesotans.

One could easily spend an entire day experiencing all of the different exhibits, displays, activities and galleries here. There is something for everyone, young children, families, adult couples, etc.

We've taken our grandchildren numerous times to see traveling exhibits and the permanent displays. All are well worth the admission and your time. Displays are well lit, explanation panels interesting and thorough. The staff is very good with spending the time to hear questions and give answers. There is a tendency to political correctness in the interpretation of some history, but that's always the trend. Each generation has there own version of history, or at least tweaks history to match current trends. Access is easy from the freeways. Parking is close but outdoors. With our winter weather you may have to drop at the door while the sturdier member of your party parks the car and walks the short distance to the museum entrance. One can argue with the vast wasted space in the central stairs/access to the upper floors. Some would say a grand entrance is appropriate, others see wasted space. There is a nice cafeteria with nice choices in food, moderately priced. The Minnesota State Historical Society offers different levels of memberships which include various combinations of discounts at their many sites. Often worth it for a family interested in visiting historical attractions. The only real drawback is that once a member you will be asked to help lobby the state government to further subsidize the Society. Of course that's your choice. Overall membership is a good deal and it's a great family trip to any of their facilities.
