You may think they lay out an "informal" garden like this and just keep it going year by year, but it is not true. This is certainly true of Munsingers, which is in a continual state of transformation, year by year and even week by week. Plants move around, new things are tried--truly an artistic masterpiece that never stands still. We searched out the gardeners who were happy to show us how they were in the process of gradually reshaping a bed, making sure that every layer of plants blends naturally with the other, keeping in mind the flowerings characteristic of each month. And what a fabulous confluences of artistic touches it is. Everything works together--the perennial beds, the annuals, the paths, the lawn, the buildings, the fountains, even the Mississippi River that flows by. I can't imagine passing this way without stopping by to see it.
