My wife, daughter and many neighbors and friends have been eating here or dropping by for drinks frequently since the place opened. We just returned from a week long vacation and stopped in, not wanting to shop or cook. The place was busy as usual. They've been aving some financial issues and a new sign on the door said they were not going to start opening until 3pm, at least temporarily.
Our party of 4 had a short wait in the bar and were seated in the dining room.
Background: Since the departure of key management staff approximately six months ago, the whole operation and attitude seems to have changed. When we asked about the sudden departure of the manager, we were stonewalled. There are numberous rumors circulating around our small town about embezzlement, lawsuits, etc.... Anyway, the bar service is still adequate but since that gentleman departed, the food and food service has been in a steep decline.
Tonight, a member of our party ordered a bottle of Miller Light and was brought a draft glass of flat, keg Miller Light. Again, it was relatively busy as it usually is, we got the beer replaced and scanned the menu which still offers great variety. We ordered food and waited 45-50 minutes for our meal to be brought out. When the food arrived, a cheesburger arrived without cheese and cold, a thai noodles dish as also cold with noodles sticking together in one bug lump. Instead of a serving of fried shrimp, they brought my wife and order of fish and chips. Fortunately my cheesey garlic bread order was hard to mishandle. After trying to get the attention of our server for a good fifteen minutes, I finally asked for the bill and the manager. I spoke with the manager of the day (as they no longer seem to have anyone in charge full time) who we are very familiar with, and told her about the issues and how disappointed we were that the place seems ot be going downhill. I asked that the bill be adjusted for the uneaten burger and noodles. She said they are trying to work through a lot of issues. Two other tables by us also had the same type of service (time) or food (cold) issues.
I did not ask for a free meal as we'd had 3 beers, two salads, an order of garlic bread and the shrimp that was finally brought out. I just wanted them to take those other items off and the manager said she'd take care of it. About 30 minutes later, I asked our server for an update on the bill and she said we were free to go, it was taken care of (but no one told us).
Rosemount has a couple of other good dining options (Las Tortillas, Rudy's Red Eye) as well as an Applebee's and Carbone's. It would be a shame to see Fireside continue to decline.
I do like the fact that they did the right thing in comping the entire meal. That will earn a return trip, probably in a couple of months, to see if they have gotten their act together.
