Very up to date clean rooms & nice soft towels.
Loved the Twigs restaurant....very unique entrees with good pricing.
We travel to Rochester, Minnesota 5 or more times a year with our children being in wrestling and the town is very easy to navigate and this hotel is in the center with all things you would need very close. Many good restaurants near this hotel also.
Have tried many other hotels in the last 10 years of coming down and now after our second stay here we are hooked.

Clean, quiet, comfortable hotel. We have stayed there many times in conjunction with visits to Mayo Clinic. They have a great shuttle service to Mayo buildings that operates contnuously and on demand. And includes a wheelchair accessicle mini bus. Nice pool and good free breakfast. Not a fan of the hotel retaurant for other meals but the free shuttle service also takes guests to area restaurants and the shopping mall. In addition to regular hotel rooms they have suites with kitchen facilities in a separate building - nice and great for longer stays but i found they were not very handicap accessible.

I stay in Rochester a couple times per year for visits to the Mayo Clinic. Best Western Soldiers Field is by far the best value in Rochester. I've stayed at other hotels before but always come back to this one. Their shuttle service is top notch - other hotels are twice the price and claim they have connected hotels to the Mayo Clinic, but the Best Western shuttles run continuously to Mayo Clinic as well as the Apache Mall, the movie theaters, the grocery store - really anywhere you want. I just finished dinner at a place just outside of downtown and after I called they were there faster than if I would have called a taxi. The front desk staff is very friendly and they have a nice breakfast in the morning with scrambled eggs, waffles, pastries and fresh fruit. I usually book directly and ask for the tower rooms. I think the tower rooms are a little nicer and larger than their motel like rooms that open to the outside.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a tower room - they are a little larger and nicer than the motel style rooms t...

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us at the Best Western Soldiers Field Tower & Suites. We are so happy to hear that you always come back and stay with us.

Our shuttle service is one of the best in the area and our drivers are definitely one of a kind! We are not sure what we would do without each and every one of our drivers. We pride ourselves in giving our guests the best possible experience while in Rochester with our shuttle service and prompt pickup and drop off times. We have worked hard on making sure we are staffed properly during busier times of the day, and it’s great to hear that our efforts have paid off.

We are happy to hear that our front desk staff was very friendly during your stays with us. We can’t wait to pass along your wonderful comments to our staff. They enjoy hearing that everything they do is appreciated by our guests.

We are glad that you enjoyed our free breakfast buffet that we offer seven days a week. We have recently added a few more options to our breakfast buffet including Egg Bakes, Meat, Egg, and Cheese Scramble with homemade American fries and we have added a pancake machine as well. We hope that you are able to enjoy those new items during your next stay with us.

We couldn’t be happier to hear that you enjoy our tower guestrooms. We have recently added flat screen televisions in each of our guestrooms for your enjoyment.

We hope you have a great holiday season and can’t wait to see you again soon.
Sincerely, Myron Salz

We got a reservation at the Best Western Soldier Field to help some friends get through an operation at Mayo. We had a pet and because of that, they put us in what they called an "auxiliary" building -- which meant across a street and a parking lot from the main hotel. So to get to the free breakfast or any of the other benefits of the hotel, you had to walk in freezing cold and icy wind 300 yards across a parking lot and a street.

When I called to confirm the reservation they said it was right next door. Not true. The hotel itself, and the other building which was actually right next door didn't allow pets. The building we ended up in looks like it used to be low-income housing and has that feel to it. Our room was below ground, although the windows were above ground and the kitchen and bathroom area were both full of ants. Right across the narrow parking lot from us was the maintenance shed full of toxic chemicals and gasoline for the lawn mowers.

In the room itself, it seemed as though they had done what they could to make it okay, but the overall feel of the place was that it was low-income housing that had been converted to a hotel. There was no information about the hotel, the channels on the TV or anything else in the room, there was no phone book, no glasses in the bathroom, and it was a kitchenette, but there was hardly any silverware (not even enough for the two of us) and the dishrags, dishtowels and pot holders were stained and dirty. When I was checking out two other people came in looking for silverware for their kitchenettes and were told maybe they could get some from the restaurant.

There was no dish soap or any of the other nicety things we've gotten in every other kitchenette we've stayed in at places like the Homewood Suites. I needed laundry detergent, but they didn't have any although they had a laundry. They said they'd "been out of it for a while." Every extended stay place we've been at least had it for sale on premises. The staff was nice enough, but seemed a little detached and clearly didn't have much to work with.

The thing is, for the same price, there were a myriad of other far better places to stay. We checked out after one night and luckily found a place for the same price with a lovely lounge area with a fireplace, a great complimentary breakfast, a wonderful, welcoming staff, a large studio with a full kitchen, free laundry facilities, and shuttle service. So all-in-all, the Best Western might have been an okay place to stay for $49.00 a night if you didn't have much in the way of expectations for that price, compared to what we got for $100 a night elsewhere, but for the same price, it was a joke, and not a very funny one. Certainly not what we expected from a Best Western, where we've stayed enough to become some kind of platinum elite or some such.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else.

Thank you for reviewing your stay with us at the Best Western Soldiers Field. We are sorry to hear about your experience during your stay with us. Our property is comprised of a main tower and three outer buildings. Our pet friendly rooms are in the building across the street, and I am sorry to hear that our front desk staff did not make this clear to you when making your reservation. The location of our pet friendly rooms has been chosen because that is the building that is closest to green space for pets to be able to go outside to go to the bathroom. That building is also next door to Soldiers Field park which makes it a wonderful location for pets to be able to run and play. It is also the closest building connected to Rochester’s bike and walking paths to take pets for walks around the neighborhood. These were the reasons that we chose this location for pet friendly rooms. Due to our Mayo Clinic clientele we had to designate a specific area of the hotel to be pet friendly to ensure that our guests know there has been a pet in those rooms due to allergies. Again, our staff should have told you of the services that we offer our guests in the outer buildings as the shuttle will pick you up at your room and bring you to the main hotel building whenever is needed.

Regarding the ants, we were able to narrow down which room you stayed in and to our horror we saw the ants that you spoke about. We immediately addressed the situation and had a very long meeting with our staff and pest control professionals to eliminate the problem and to educate our staff on how to prevent future problems and implement a continued prevention program.

The buildings were originally built as one bedroom apartments for Mayo Clinic nursing staff and were converted to hotel rooms and are very popular for patients looking for extended stay accommodations and for travelers looking for suites with separate bedrooms. We have made many improvements to these room including new carpet, new bedding and each room will soon have two flat screen televisions installed. We have also just recently been approved by Best Western for a complete face lift of the exteriors of the outer buildings and we will implement the new design as soon as all of the details regarding construction have been completed.

For the upkeep of our property we do have maintenance storage garages. We do have gasoline for our lawn mowers and household residential chemicals to take care of our gardens, lawn, and barrels of salt for icy spots in our parking lot. The doors to these building are not suppose to be left open unless they are working in the building. We are very sorry that the building door was left open as this is not the view we want our guests to experience. We have spoke to the staff on duty during your stay to be certain that this does not happen again.

We have recently hired a new housekeeping director who is restructuring her staff to ensure that all the necessary information and guest amenities are in each and every room. Our Guest Suites are typically stocked with a sauté pan, sauce pan, dishes and silverware for 4 people. Our housekeeping staff is to check that all the cookware is accounted for upon every checkout. We have spoken with our Executive Housekeeper and she is addressing this issue with our housekeeping staff.

We do provide dish detergent for the dish washer in all of our guest suites, I apologize if this was not communicated to you upon check in. We will make note of your request for dish soap to be provided in the guest rooms when we are discussing new amenities for our guests. I am sorry that we did not have laundry detergent available during your stay, we do sell individual packets at our front desk and the delivery had not come in when we had expected but it is sold for our guests convenience.

On every level we are so very sorry. This is in no way the experience we would ever want a guest to have and we appreciate, more than you know you letting us know of your situation. I hope that if you are ever in the Rochester area you will give us another chance to redeem ourselves. Please contact me as I would like to discuss this further with you, myron@soldiersfield.com

Sincerely, Myron Salz

I have stayed at this hotel at least eight times, and I will probably stay here another eight times within the next few years. Several buildings comprise the hotel: there is the main one with the front desk, breakfast room, and restaurant; one across the parking lot, and one across the street. I have stayed in all of the buildings. The main building is more convenient, I suppose, (also more expensive), but I prefer the other buildings because the rooms are all small suites, like a studio apartment really, with full kitchens, double beds, or a king. Some living rooms also have fold-down Murphy beds, firm but comfortable. If you are going to be in town for several days, I highly recommend getting the suites. It's a great value. The kitchens are sparsely furnished, and it varies from room to room, but there are usually enough utensils, plates, cookware, etc., that you can get by if you want to cook something simple. Full-size fridge, microwave, oven, coffeepot are all available. If you get tired of eating out, despite the great restaurants in the vicinity, you can always make some pasta.
Another great thing about this hotel is the shuttle service, which starts at 5:30 a.m. and goes until ten p.m. The drivers are fantastic, friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. The shuttles loop all day between the hotel, Mayo Clinic, the hospitals, the mall. They will drop you off at a restaurant and come pick you up later. Park your car in the lot, and you won't need it until it is time to go home.
Breakfast is fairly good; there is a waffle maker and usually a decent fruit salad, and some protein choices. If you can't eat before having tests at the clinic, the Dunn Brothers coffee (I think) is very tasty. Breakfast starts early. The hotel restaurant, Twigs, is a good choice for at least one meal. It has an eclectic menu and I have never had a bad meal there. Try the pear and walnut salad!
On the few times I have ever had a problem at Soldiers' Field, such as a leaky toilet, or needing extra bedding, it has been taken care of very quickly. The internet works great. The staff is very used to dealing with Mayo Clinic patient issues and will make accommodations for you if at all possible.
This place is not fancy, but it is a great value. The convenience of the shuttle, the helpful staff, and the good restaurants add to its desirability.

Room Tip: The rooms on the back of the other buildings, facing people's backyards, are super quiet, but th...

My son and I just returned from a 5 day stay. He was a patient at the Mayo clinic. The location was perfect. Free shuttle to and back from the Mayo. About an 8 minute shuttle. They also shuttle you to the Apache mall all for free! The free breakfasts were very good as well with a large selection of food. We had a suite in one of the outside buildings near the rear. Nice and quite. Never heard any noise or traffic. The Suite was very nice with a Murphy bed and 1 bedroom with full kitchen. The living room and bedroom both had TV's.
Overall I would stay again. Excellent.
