Even though they've been open for nearly a year, we didn't hear about Downtown Kitchen until a month ago and now it's on our short list of favorites in Rochester. The food is excellent and on par with more expensive restaurants in the Twin Cities area where we tend to go when we want higher end fare. The menu is brief but both visits have been excellent. During our most recent visit we tried the crab cakes which were exceptional with a home made romoulade sauce. For our main entree we tried the Tuscan sirloin which had excellent seasoning and prepared as requested. Dessert include tradional creme brûlée and a chocolate tort. Neither disappointed! And best of all, Downtown Kitchen's prices are very reasonable. A must try!

We shared crab cakes, a salad, a steak and a chicken bouillabaisse. All outstanding. The menu selections change with the seasons. The service was excellent.

This lovely, cozy space has a European feel.
There is a good selection of first course salad and soups. We had asparagus salad and carrot soup.
There were four interesting entrees the night we were there . Something for everyone, vegetarian, fish, steak and chicken . We enjoyed the Char and chickpea Tagine.
Although we were full after dinner, the place was so comfortable that we ordered espresso so we could linger a while.

We decided to check out the Downtown Kitchen this past weekend. We were very pleasantly surprised with the new spot. The service was great and atmosphere intimate. Our dinners were fantastic. The starter courses (aspargus salad and carrot ginger soup) were perfectly done. The main courses (Artic Char, Morrocan chickpea tagine and leg of lamb) were also perfectly done. Everything was fresh and flavorful. The desserts were also heavenly. The menu provides an interesting variety that seems unique from anywhere else in Rochester. We will definitely be back.

After peeking in and admiring the atmosphere of this restaurant, my husband and I decided to give it a try. The host was very friendly and we had great service from our waitress. The food was quite good, with a limited, but varied selection. We were both pleasantly surprised and enjoyed it for its food, service, and ambience. We will definitely return!
