If you want to disappear from your worries or your day, the Plummer house is such a place to help you de-stress. The gardens are magical and the house is so inspiring. It captures a sense of the old world. I've been here many times and each time, I feel a sense of specialness and beauty about the days we all share.

The grounds are open to the public. They have lots of beautiful trees, plants, and flowers. I suggest taking the stairs to the lower grounds to see the water features. It's a nice place to take pictures. I have also attended a wedding reception there, and the inside is lovely.

The house is part of the Rochester Park & Rec department. It is not always open to tour best I know. However, if you are able to visit during a public event held at the house, it is a great place to tour and see some of the past history of the doctors who founded Mayo Clinic.

If you visit in the summer, the grounds are nice to tour and see the gardens and overlook of the southern half of Rochester. Part of the view is the local enclosed mall, Apache which isn't a great view, but otherwise is a pretty area to view and perhaps even have a picnic.

If you are able to tour the interior, it is interesting to see how folks lived without some amenities we take for granted these days. The doctors were pretty forward thinking and had thought ahead with addition of electric lights, small elevators and other helpful fixtures not common at that time.

This building is an amazing, architectural gift! There is a small historical museum on the 3rd floor which is quite intriguing. The day we went, there was a volunteer there who gave us a guided tour explaining (quite well!) the history of the founders of Mayo clinic. The entire building has architecture to enjoy.

While visiting family, they suggested we go to an antique sale at the historic Plummer House. I had seen the outside a few times but never got to go inside. The sale was upstairs and downstairs and the public was allowed to go inside each room to see items. It was a special surprise to get to see some of the rooms of the house too! I understand it is usually for private parties/weddings only and so this was great! There were a lot of people there and I'm sure some of the usual furniture was stashed away, but other than that, it was a nice experience. I understand that Dr. Plummer's innovations contributed much to the Mayo Clinic and to some of the medical practices we have today. The outside of the house is lovely also and the grounds are well kept.
