Stayed overnight from Mich to S. Dakota. Room was remodeled somewhat with newer fixtures, carpet and bedspreads and fairly new paint. Our room was toward the back and was quiet without any street noise. This is an older building, but the room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was limited to a few items. It was close to restaurants. Just what we wanted in a reasonably priced overnight stay while traveling.

i usally dont have a problem staying in less expensive, less high name hotels when i am traveling as long as they are clean and I feel safe. This was not the case. If you read my reviews, you will see that I review a lot of hotels and am very tolerant and easy going, and stay in a variety of establishments. This one however, I did not feel safe in. The neighborhood was fine, I mean it was right on the main drag in Rochester, so its not like it was off on its own somewhere, but the whole atmosphere made me uncomfortable. First off was the lobby. Old, and although it appeared fairly clean, had poor upkeep. The continential breakfast would take place here, and needless to say, we didnt go to the breakfast. There was a counter off to the side of the check in desk that had a coffee pot and a toaster sitting out, that looked like they were just shoved off to the side when the breakfast was over. I couldnt imagine them putting food on the counter with the coffee pot and the toster, becuase they looked so unappealing on their own. The lobby smelled musty and like stale smoke, even though I was told I would be charged an extra 100.00 dollars if there were any smoking (i dont smoke so no worries, but by the smell of things, they were collecting 100.00 fines quite often). The gal at the front desk, although nice, was not professional at all. After checking in, I was given my keys and instructions on where to park. From the parking lot, you first enter a breeze way, or an area between 2 glass doors. This area smelled so bad and was very grungy looking. The floor was sticky and dirty. Once you enter thru the 2nd door, you are now in the interior hallway. Again, the smell was horrible. The carpet was filthy, the wallpaper was peeling off the walls all down the hallway and there were portable dehumidifiers (or air purifiers??) plugged in and sitting in hallway every 10 feet or so. Upon entering the room, it looked 'ok'. They tried to decorate it, but the rooms are in such a need of updating that this was hard to do. It's not that the rooms were 'dirty', but you just have that feeling of 'ewww' when you walk in. There was a king sized bed, a dresser with a flat screen tv on it and a table in the corner with a couple chairs and then a veluor reclining chair that has some kind of nasty, hard crusty looking stain on the arm of the chair. There was a seperate vanity area outside of the bathroom, and the sink there was ok, but obvious wear and showed it's age. The large mirror above the sink was clean, but the area all along the bottom of the mirror where it meets the counter top was filled with grime and not clean. In the 'closet', the area meant to be a closet, but with no door on it was a dorm sized fridge that was unplugged and open with the cord hanging over the open door (I get that it should be unplugged and open to prevent smell, but the cord was so dirty and grimey, and was hanging inside the fridge. I didnt open the fridge any further than what it was propped open, but could see the seal was all dirty as well. There was also a microwave and coffee maker in the closet next to the fridge. The bathroom consisted of the toilet and the tub/shower combo. I usually take a bath as opposed to a shower, however, i skipped both here. The drain around the bottom of the tub was rusty and in poor condition and the tub did not look clean. The bathroom had a floor register right in front of the toilet (so that is all you could look at when you were on the toilet) that was full of dirt and dust all along the inside of the register. The top of the register was all rusted and peeling paint on it and grime along where it attached to the wall.
The bed was ok, not a new mattress in any way. no pillow top or nice end mattress, just the old hard mattresses of motels from years gone by.
The other big problem was the location of the air conditioner/heater. It was mounted high up on the wall, near the ceiling and blew straight down on to the bed. Not only was it difficult to see what temperature you were adjusting it to at that height, but even if you were covered with blankets, it was blowing right on your face the whole time. AND, it never turned off. Generally, if you set them at a temperature, it will turn on and off accordingly..this one stayed on, blowing, all night long.
Despite the fact that this was a cheap stay for a quick overnight while traveling through the area, I would not stay here again.

Affordable stay. Close to restaurants and shopping. Needed a hotel cheap and clean. Had to go to the Mayo Clinic but the hotels near the Mayo are way too expensive. ( I know copied and pasted but true)...Very friendly staff. Inn was quiet. Breakfast was ample. There were no red carpets but the carpets in our room were soft and clean. It is nice you can park near your room so no need to walk through a lobby. Very enjoyable stay hope to go there again when I'm in Rochester next....Don't forget the short cut out the back way to shopping south, and turning left on 20th and coming in the back way so no need to go past and coming back.

Room Tip: Any room is a good room.

Our stay was great we got there very late but the staff was still very friendly and helpful. Can't beat the price for a nice clean room and clean bed. Very enjoyable stay hope to go there again when I'm in Rochester next.

You can't beat the value you get here! Very reasonably priced and you get everything you need in a hotel. The bathroom looked like it had just been remodeled and it was a very quiet, cozy atmosphere. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodated everything that we needed. This is very important to me, as I have a background in customer service and receiving high-quality service is something that I take seriously. Good location as it is close to a lot of restaurants and a Wal-Mart. I would recommend this place to anyone!
