Frontenac State Park

We hiked along the trial closest to the river with two small dogs. The trail was narrow and steep in places but I never felt unstable. Views were gorgeous. There are a couple places where you can get down to the river, though those are steep as well. It helped to have the dogs pull us back up, ha ha! I'd definitely recommend Frontenac for hiking.

This is nice small park. We stayed for a night. Went hiking the next day. We liked the adventure in hiking the bluffs. They also have a nice picnic area and clean restroom. Not a lot of bugs during our stay which was great.

Frontenac is a great park for a one night stay.

I have stayed at Frontenac countless times and love the park, however there is not a lot to do for more than one night. The hike along the bluffs is fantastic. While hiking last time we saw Bald Eagles, Turkey Vultures, Golden Eagles, and Osprey all within 20 yards. Once I even stumbled across a Bald Eagle eating a Paddlefish 10 feet in front of me. The Eagle stared at me for awhile then flew off.

The campground here is nice but nothing special. Some sites border the trail which are nice if you have children because they can play in the woods, but not the nicest of you want some privacy. Most sites here are exposed except for the cart-in sites. The cart-in sites are a good hike from the parking spots but well worth the haul. The sites are not particularly pretty, but are very secluded. You are in your own private area. We fell asleep to the sound of Coyotes and watched the northern lights.
