The view is vast of Red Wing and down the Mississippi River. Thoreau wrote of his adventures while traveling through this land, and he wrote about it in his letters to his mother (not to mention the 100 snakes/day that he would kill). The hike goes up over 330 feet. Bring a sweater on cool days as the wind can be chilly. The South Trail is easier to climb, but I prefer the North Trail because the views of the rock formations and nature are significantly more vast. Keep your eyes open for wildlife. You may even spot a red fox or two.
