“Heavenly Stay at Golden Lantern Inn”
Reviewed April 30, 2008

We booked the heavenly package which included dinner at the Port resturant at the St James, a night at the Golden Lantern Inn, and a plane ride over the Mississippi. The inn is lovely, the hosts were friendly and helpful.

We were greeted by the host, and Colby a gentle giant of a dog, and fresh chocolate chip cookies. We stayed in the JR Suite; it was spacious, lovely, with a comfortable bed and chairs. We sat down in the chairs and promptly went to sleep in them they were so comfortable.

Dinner at St James was wonderful and we enjoyed a relaxing evening, and got a good nights sleep. Loved having bottle water available in the refrig outside our room. - Nice touch.

We woke up to coffee and tea which was brought to our room at 8 am, and then we went down for breakfast at 9. The food was great and there was more than we really needed.

Would love to return when their gardens are in bloom.

The Golden Lantern is our new favorite place to stay!!! We stayed in Helens Suite and it was absolutely beautiful! The room was romantic with it's canopy bed, and the cozy sitting room with it's fireplace and balcony. There were delicious homemade chocolate chip cookies in our room every night and the breakfast was outstanding!!!! The owners were very accomodating and friendly and made our stay wonderful! We've already decided that we'll be returning in the summer and in the fall....for our "mini-moon"! The town is beatiful and there is lots to do! Two thumbs up just doesn't cut it....it was fabulous!

Very impressed with this little B&B...particularly as we had been driving for a long time. What immediately struck me upon walking in was the sheer style of the decor, very tastefully done. Very clean as well, and welcomed with chocolate chip cookies. The owners were sweet, and very kindly called up the local restaurant for a bite to eat late at night.

Red Wing itself is very well preserved. Unlike many other small US towns, I found the towns in Minnesota to be very well preserved and looked after, and would have liked to have stayed a bit longer if we could. Highly recommend this little B&B, and the breakfast was superb.

We stayed at the Golden Lantern almost 5 years ago in the summer. It was just as wonderful in the winter as it was in the summer. The hospitality was superb and the breakfast was out of this world. The house is charming and cozy. We would go again, but hopefully have time to stay 2 nights. One night is not enough!! Bring a book and relax!!! Except to go get some dinner, we didn't want to go anywhere. Pat, the innkeeper, is so accomodating and gracious. I recommend this inn to everyone. It is the only B&B we have visited more than once.

We loved the charm, elegance, and friendliness of the Golden Latern. The recomendations for dinner, shopping, and entertainment were right on. Our room "The Hideway" was amazing. Huge & spacious don't even come close. The whirlpool facing the fireplace was a hit. Our only complaint was the bed. The bed is ready for replacement. Being the first to arrive we toured the other rooms. They are all beautiful and spacious. You won't go wrong at the Golden Lantern.

The Golden Lantern in Red Wing, MN was without a doubt, one of the best B&Bs we have stayed at. It was immaculate, quiet, peaceful and elegant. The owners were friendly but not invasive and the food was delicious! We would love to go back sometime.
I would recommend it without reservation.

This is the stuff fairy tales are made of! Everything you can think of has been provided; from the in–room cd player with relaxing cds to the stocked mini fridge, bath products and robes to the morning wake up basket with coffee, tea or cocoa and in–room gourmet breakfast.
They will even arrange for a before bed in–room massage with a local therapist for you!
An incredible 1930s Tudor mansion, the Golden Lantern is impeccably appointed and maintained. Inn keepers Gary and Pat are there when you need them and out of sight when you don't. I highly recommend the Hideaway room for privacy and space, but you really can't go wrong with any of the rooms. The foyer, parlor and fire-lit sitting rooms are a victorian delight. The sunlight porch and patio are straight out of a home and garden magazine.
The grounds will make the hardiest gardener shrink with envy! There is a huge stone outdoor fireplace where the makings for s'mores are provided. Enchanting. Simply storybook!
