American Eagle Bluff Bed and Breakfast
Reviewed July 15, 2011

This gem is hidden away at the top of the bluffs with spectacular views of the Mississippi and Chippewa Rivers. With eyes open you can see for miles around, you can cozy up in the library and read all night or close your eyes for the best night of sleep you have had in ages. The rooms are beautiful, full of antiques and art but not over done, and the gardens will make you feel like you have stepped into a fairy land. Taste the cherries, the berries or the apples, whatever is in season right from the tree or vine. Sit at the fire pit as the evening cools and watch the stars appear. All this would be enough but you get to wake up to one of the most delicious, filling breakfasts you have had in ages. Go here!

It is a rare treat to run across truly charming accommodations. I couldn't have been more thrilled when I discovered The American Eagle Bluff Bed & Breakfast. It is the creation of Raynard & Perry (also charming) who lavish this place with care, creativity and brilliance. This is a labor of love and it is an exceptional property. There are countless things I love about this place -but mostly it makes me happy to be alive. I could stay here forever.

I found this bed & breakfast to be truly unique, combining dramatic decor with elegant landscaping and a stunning setting high on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi. First of all I loved the brick turn-of-the-century farmhouse, and spent time lounging on the porch swing, taking in all the flowers and beautiful view of three rivers and a huge wildlife reserve. The friendly hosts served a lavish multi-course breakfast on Fiestaware in a three-season conservatory with fireplace, and it was so much fun to eat in the shade of all the huge trees surrounding the house. The grounds include perennial gardens, a rock pool, antique apple trees, a path to a lookout deck over the river valley, and lovely, quiet solitude. I especially liked the a great reading library. We had two large and comfortable bedrooms furnished with Pendleton blankets and interesting art. There was a real feeling of peace, relaxation and fun about the whole place. I can't wait to go again. You won’t believe the view!

Room Tip: The larger bedroom has a big rain shower.
