“A gastronomic jewel in southwest Minneapolis suburbs”
Reviewed August 20, 2012

This is by far one of my most favorite restaurants in all of Minneapolis. Intimate dining, and never a bad meal. You can come dressed up to the nines in the dining room, or straight from the lake in shorts and a T-shirt at the bar, and never once feel out of place. Wine selection is phenomenal, chef specials (and the regular entrees) are always perfect. Check out the homemade limoncello for an after dinner aperitif... divine.

As HannahBee said in an earlier post, expect to pay about $50 a head for a full dinner with wine and dessert...But you cannot go wrong with this place - a gem of a place for the SW foodies that are looking for prime eating.

“My new favorite restaurant”
Reviewed June 29, 2012

This place has the best service and best food that I have experienced in a long time.

Everything I have tried has been phenomenal. My favorite item on the menu is the goat cheese salad -- heaven. Best salad I have ever had.

With wine, appetizer, and entree expect to pay around $40-50 person. It's worth it!!!!

“Great food without having to go downtown”
Reviewed May 25, 2012

Sul Lago has an extensive menu and excellent food. You're bound to find something you would like, we had one person that doesn't do Itallian and had the steak; which was superb. I love the fact that they have duck on the menu and the wine list is extensive. Service was excellent, I am defiately going to go there again.

“Unexceptional”
Reviewed May 3, 2012

Hard to believe some of the glowing reviews posted here for Sul Lago. We live in the area and my wife and I have been there many times. The food is usually good...not great....and there's not a lot of creativety. The menu doesn't seem to change much, although there are always specials. Service can be hit or miss. Our most recent server looked to be about 20 yrs. old and referred to my wife and I as "guys." She was nice and seemed to try, but didn't wasn't very knowlegable about the food or the wine (she seemed to be following a script). The wine list is pretty good.

Most of the dishes are way too rich. The chef overuses butter, cream and cheese for flavor. The bruschetta is basically cheese bread loaded with everything they can think of piled on...awful. The tomato basil soup was good, but it was served piping hot and I had to wait 5 minutes to eat it. The entrees use many of the same ingredients. They are generally good if you like food smothered in butter (judging by the reviews, many people do).

Sul Lago doesn't take American Express (a completely ridiculous business decision for a restaurant that considers itself higher-end) and doesn't take online reservations or participate in Open Table. To get a reservation here, you to call and leave a message, and wait for return call confirming your table.

You can get a good meal here -- but there's a whole lot of room for improvement. If you're a foodie, have a decerning palate, or are relying on some of the more "enthusiastic" reviewers, you may be disappointed.
