“"Ok" Hotel”
Reviewed August 20, 2012

We recently stayed for 3 nights at the Best Western Kelly Inn in Plymouth. We were in the smaller king suite, which was nice to have the extra room. We found the staff to be very helpful and the rooms were adequate, but outdated. We had an end room, so we were right by the outside door entrance, which created some extra noise and the smell of smoke, as that is where people were smoking. The breakfast was just a generic complimentary breakfast with added scrambled eggs and some sort of sausage. The breakfast room was very small and could not accommodate all the people in there. The pool area is very nice, but the water was extremely cold and my kids spent more time warming up sitting on the steps of the hot tub than anything. Having the Green Mill in the same building was definitely a plus.

I think it is interesting that this is designated a "Plus" hotel, which means it is supposed to be a little better than Best Western's regular chain. We did not find that to be the case. Since TSA makes it so difficult to travel with all your personal toiletries, most travelers depend on a hotel's tiny bottles of lotion, shampoo and conditioner. Even when I asked housekeeping for lotion, I was told they only furnish it for "suites." But that was small potatoes compared to waking up with massive numbers of bedbug bites. Disgust is the only appropriate term that comes to mind to describe this establishment. I'm sure the pool area is a draw for families with children. Better hope your room isn't a haven for bedbugs.

Room Tip: Make sure your room doesn't face the interstate if you are a light sleeper.

Thank you for taking the time to respond to Trip Advisor regarding your stay at the Best Western Kelly Inn in Plymouth, MN. On behalf of our entire staff, I appologize for not exceeding your expectations. We do have complimentary lotion available for our guests and we apologize for not supplying this to you in a timely manner. We do have an aggressive bed beg prevention program in place that is monitored by a local pest control service. We do take reports of insect bites seriously and do have these rooms inspected by our pest service to ensure they are insect free and treat them professionally if necessary. We did not receive any reports or complaints about bug bites in the month of June (the time of your stay).

Sincerely,
John Nygaard

After searching for many hours trying to find a hotel with a common pool space with room access, we found and settled on the Kelly Inn in Plymouth. The staff was very helpful on our arrival and were pleasant during the stay. The pools were great for the kids. However, the lack of supervision or enforcement of the rules in the pool was an issue. Other kids were pushing on the slides, running down the slides, climbing the slides, and having such poor horseplay that on multiple occasions our children were run over or slid into in the water. Also, I had to call the front desk because at 2:30 in the morning a group of drunk people decided to go swimming and were very loud. The front desk had no idea there was anyone in the pool. I will say the staff did get the group out of the pool and quiet after about 20 minutes.
The hotel itself is outdated, but the rooms were adequate. The hotel had the usual wear and tear of an older facility, but nothing gross. The beds were only a full and older, so it is hard for 2 adults to sleep together without disturbing each other by rolling over.
Having the Green Mill next door and target just up the road was nice.

Thank you for taking the time to respond to Trip Advisor regarding your recent stay at the Best Western Plus Kelly Inn in Plymouth MN. We are pleased that your children found our hotel pool area to be enjoyable. We also thank you for your comments on our friendly customer service. In regards to pool supervision and adherence to rules, we do empathize with you and will plan to add a dedicated staff member to montor the pool area during busy weekend evenings. We also apologize for the noise that occurred in the pool area late at night. We are happy this situation was rectified in a timely manner but we will have our weekend security be more proactive in preventing these disturbances in the future. We are in the process of renovating our rooms and replacing beds this year and will continue this process into next year. Again we thank you for your comments.

Sincerely,

I found the value to be tremendous, great hot comp. breakfast and very pleasant staff. I would recomend this hotel. All of our rooms were down the same hall and we had a great time by the pool, very family friendly. The pool was a little chilly, other than that I would stay again.

We've used this hotel in the past, as part of the package that includes hotel, 2 tickets for a performance at the Plymouth Playhouse, a $25 voucher toward a meal in the Red Mill Inn Restaurant, and enhanced breakfast, ALL under one roof! This past July weekend was the most recent, and the other couple we took along raved about the setting/perks, and reasonable rate, as well. This Best Western is in excellent condition, the staff was helpful and friendly, and we hope to patronize the facility again. Don't forget your bathing suit, as the pool area is quite nice for all ages, and serves families well.

I would NOT recommend booking and staying at this hotel. Very unorganized. We booked a block of rooms for a wedding 6 months in advance, when everyone was checked in we discovered the rooms we scattered all through out the hotel ! They were not all together which was very frustrating for the wedding party and all the guests ! One of the big reasons we booked with best western was because of the complementary shuttle service they said they provided. They never informed us that you must sign up for the shuttle in advance, which made guests of the wedding unhappy. After hearing the news we went to sign up, and found out they have one shuttle which happened to be a 9 person shuttle van. With easily 75 plus wedding guests this was a huge issue! You would think that if a wedding party booked 6 months in advance they would be prepared with all rooms together and at least two shuttle buses. Well it gets better. Half of the guests decided to drive and would leave the vehicles at the reception and take the shuttle bus home so there was no drunk driving. Well once 12 o clock rolled around we all were waiting outside for the shuttle, the hotel informed us that the shuttle bus would not start. So no we had to shuttle back to the hotel. Cabs were called some sober people became personal shuttles and long night short, nobody was very happy. The commotion didn't end when everyone was back to the hotel. There was issues and the front desk with rooms and uncheck-in guests. I was not very pleased with my stay. And again I would not recommend staying at this hotel.

Thank you for taking the time to respond to Trip Advisor regarding your stay at the Best Western Plus Kelly Inn in Plymouth, MN. On behalf of our intire staff, I apologize for not exceeding your expectations. We did add complimentary shuttle service for wedding groups this past year and do inform the wedding block coordinator on the size of this complimentary service and the need for several trips in some instances. This is the first group we failed to accomodate in a timely manor and apologize for not getting all guests back to the hotel as quick as we had planned. We did borrow a shuttle from a local hotel to retrieve as many guests as possible after our vehicle had maintenance issues. We will look into a second vehicle in the future if demand is assured. Mangaement did, however, adjust over $300 to guests that did take cabs back to the hotel. We again thank you for your comments and we will continue to strive to provide superior customer care to our guests at Best Western.

Sincerely.

My sisters and I met in Minneapolis for a sister retreat. We stayed at the Best Western Kelly Inn in Plymouth, MN. Our room was awesome and was perfect for our get together. We had two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a main living area plus each room had a balcony. Our room included an excellent full breakfast each day and the pool was also great. The hotel is on 494 which is easy access to all the local attractions.

I'd also like to compliment the front desk staff. They were really helpful and friendly when we needed directions or had questions.

I would recommend this hotel if you're ever in the Minneapolis area,
