We visited Jr's No. 19 four times last week during a Bluegrass Festival (review to come on that) in Pine River, Minn. Yes, the food was THAT good. The menu changes a bit each day, which keeps it interesting and fresh. I started with tender, smoky pulled pork and topped it with the crisp, sweet/sour coleslaw that seriously was the best I've ever tasted. The contrasting texture and flavor danced in my mouth! I tasted my husband's Reuben sandwich - the smoked corned beef was exceptional, and the sandwich was piled high. We also tasted the ribs - they were tender and flavorful. Beef brisket was also among our favorites.
The sides are fresh and delicious, too. We enjoyed the Northwoods Casserole, made with tender wild rice, shredded chicken and an assortment of other Minnesota flavors and textures. The Mac and Cheese was delicious, too. The coleslaw was hands-down the best, though.
It is almost impossible to have room for dessert - but we couldn't resist. The homemade cheesecake was buttery and delicately sweet, with a melt-in-your mouth texture. The bread pudding HAS to be tasted - my husband loves it, and he has never liked bread pudding! We topped both with their Bourbon Caramel Sauce. It was hard to resist licking the plate...
The atmosphere is casual and fun. The price is good for what you get - you WILL be full, and you WILL go back!
