“Overpriced hotel calling 2 Waterslides a Waterpark!”
Reviewed March 20, 2012

We stayed for 2 nights, and I used Priority Club points. I'm glad I didn't have to pay amost $200 /night like some of the other guests. The lobby is nice, parking is easy and well lit. The front desk staff were welcoming, and I thought we'd made a good decision. The elevators were filthy, with the same big smear on the door left there all weekend. The cleaning staff uses the guest elevators to come and go, making them terribly slow and crowded. The hallways were very dirty, and in need of a cleaning. Big dustbunnies in the corners...ew. The room was nice, and looked out over an empty field, so it was quiet. There were a few plastic cups in the room, a microwave and a fridge. The ceramic coffee cups were still dirty from the last resident (yuck). Our hockey team had chosen the hotel because of the waterpark. It consisted of a kids pool with broken toys, a 'lazy riiver' that was a circle and 2 slides crowded into the space. There were only a few spaces to sit, and you can't see your children at all from there. There were a couple of lifeguards, but I'm not sure what they could see either...it was loud, the air was cold and it wasn't very clean. There was a game room where every game needed 2-4 tokens, and most games were broken.
The restaurant had good food, and nice servers. I believe it was the saving grace for the hotel. Kid's meals were free, so we had our meals there and we all enjoyed them.
Warning...the outside hotel doors were held open with ties on the doors and never locked, do there is no controlled entry to the hotel, even at night.
I don't think we'd bother with this hotel again. They have priced the rooms like a waterpark at the Dells, but they need a reality check.

Room Tip: There are other less expensive hotels in the area. However the exit south of here has an Adult Vide...

This is a very nice hotel that is very family friendly. The waterpark is very nice, kept a team of 12 hockey kids occupied while the parents gathered. After the kids went to bed there was plenty of room in the lobby to gather for conversation. The water park had to shut down fo ra little while as there was child that had a number 2 in it. Told everybody to leave so they could clean it around 3 or so, by the time we got back that evening around 7 it was already back open again. Restuarant not so good, pizza sucked, breakfast was overpriced, but if go somewhere else to eat and just want to stay at the hotel and not worry about the restuarant then it is great. Little overpriced, but with the waterpark included not as bad.

Room Tip: go somewhere else to eat

We wanted to stay at this hotel for the reason of the waterpark, well that was a joke. The waterpark consisted of two slides and a kids pool! The water was warm but the room itself was cold, and to prevent from freezing you had to stay in the water. The arcade was also a disappointment we went in there to play the games and almost half of them did not work and did not have "out of order" signs on them so we ended up losing money there. The arcade was the temp that the waterpark area should have been,it was so warm in there I almost passed out! Another thing that upset me was the hotel only has one cash machine and it was out of money! Their so called "Wet Bar" consisted of a bottle of water for $3.00 and we had purchased the King room package which was supposed to include a free pizza and pitcher of pop and they tried to pull a fast one by forgetting to put the coupon in with our keys! We had to call down and request one They do not provide breakfast, that would have been an additional $8.00 per person so we headed over to Caribou Coffee! I will have to say that we were not impressed with this hotel especially after spending $190.00 for one night! If we ever stay in Owatonna again it will not be here!

This is my second review of this property. It has improved greatly since our initial visit. The restuarant service is still very bad. Our server had just gotten her tongue pierced and it was hard to understand her. The food was terrible and it really helped that the kids ate free because they barely ate. The pool was nice and warm and the lifeguards were attentive and made sure everyone was safe. Our room was newly remodeled and looked very nice and it was clean. We were there with another family and requested adjoining rooms which we did not get. Our rooms were right next to eachother though. It just would have been nice so we could play cards and hang out without having to sit on the beds. We were given a coupon for the kids to eat free for breakfast but we decided to hit the local Perkins where we had a great breakfast with great service. I am glad we gave this place another shot. In the future we will either order pizza in or hit up a local eatry. The one on site is just not worth the money. I'm not sure what we could have done to get the adjoining room. We both requested adjoining rooms when we made the reservations and we both called to make sure it was set up and were told it was not a problem. I rated the service terrible due to this issue. I felt like they blew us off and did nothing to make it right.

lahianagirl01,

Thank you for your review and being so detailed in the good, the bad and the very good! Whilst I am pleased with the good and the really good comments, I truly value the bad comments as this gives us the opportunity of improving what we already do. We will address these points and I hope that when you return you will see the improvements that have been made.

We live in the Cities and were looking for a little getaway with a 5 year old and 3 year old. A friend recommended this hotel. Upon arrival at 11:00, I learned that they were on winter pool hours, which I did not see on their website! I figured if you have a hotel pool, it is open everyday, all day:(. The water park would not open until 3:00 and was closed the following day! We decided to stay and they let us check in early. We had to go to lunch somewhere else because the restaurant was closed until 4:00. We ate near by, took naps and hit the pool at 3:00 sharp. My kids swam until 6:00. The water was soooo warm! There is no way we would have been able to swim that long if it was not. The water park was perfect for this age group. There were a few other families there and the place seemed crowded. Lifeguards were very attentive. Food was decent at the restaurant for dinner and breakfast. Room was ok, nothing fancy, but was quiet! I would go back, will now know to check their water park hours to make sure we can use it the entire time we are there, not just one day in the afternoon.

We had stayed here previously some years ago when the property began its' initial decline. It has since been nicely remodeled and was very comfortable for my family of five. If you've read any of my other reviews, you know that finding a room that we fit in comfortably is important. We had a family suite room, which was a king bed room (with a door) in the main room with a kitchenette, and a small table and chairs / work area. The other room had two queens and the bathroom.

While we only stayed for one night, we were able to enjoy the room and the water park. If you can get to the water park early in the day, there is generally very few people there. At one point, we had the whole thing to ourselves. There is a nice little kids / zero depth area, a slightly deeper area with a basketball hoop, two water slides and a small lazy river. I also appreciated a higher level of vigilance by the life guards than you find in a typical water park. When one young man started to splash my two year old, the life guard was quick to ask him to stop it and explain to his parents that his behavior would need to be better.

Overall, this is a great spot for a day or two get away, or a stop if you're traveling up I-35. There is a Cabela's right out front, a Caribou coffee shop with a drive through next door, and what's left of the Medford outlets are just an exit up the freeway.

Room Tip: We enjoyed the family suites - two adults, two boys (7 and 10), and a two year old girl.

I only stayed one night but I was very comfortable. My room was clean and quiet, the location was good for getting in and out of Owatonna, and the employees were friendly and courteous. I'll be back to town later in the year and THIS is where I'll stay. With the restaurant right there, it's a great hotel to relax in.
