“Decent place, location stinks”
Reviewed February 27, 2012

Nice rooms, decent waterpark, but located a long ways from anything. One there you are stuck eating in their restaurant unless you want to drive an hour. Everything was a tad on the pricey side.

I'm reviewing the resort restaurant Willie T's.

Busy Saturday night at 6 pm, but we were still able to get a table for three with no wait. Nice casual atmosphere in one large open room. The bar is off to one side with a pool table and darts on the other side. We sat at a high table by the back windows overlooking the golf course.

The menu is large with sandwiches, burgers, pizza or steaks, ribs, fish and chicken.
This is what we had:
Sirloin steak was done perfectly.
Chicken and ribs were requested gluten free so they came with no sauce, but the ribs still fell of the bones and were very flavorful. They didn't even need the sauce. Chicken was juicy and tender.
Salmon was overdone and I didn't care for the maple sauce that came on it.
You get a choice of two sides and the sweet potato fries were my favorite.
All portions were huge!

Service was fast and friendly.

I have to start by saying this is a beautiful resort and a fun waterpark for the kids. The rooms were nice, food at Willies was good with huge portions.

My only complaint is the noise that you hear from room to room. We were on a second floor room and could literally hear every footstep in the room above us. I asked right after check in if there was any rooms on ther 3rd floor and she said no, but later I heard her checking in a family for the same type room on the 3rd floor. They have quiet hours from 12-7 am. If this is a family resort I think the hours should be 10-7am. The room above us had kids running back and forth and jumping off the beds. We have a 10 and 6 year old that were trying to sleep, with no luck due to the noise. I called the front and they said there wasn't anything they could do since it was before midnight, so I called the room above us myself and asked nicely if they could respect that there were other guests in this hotel and to try keep it down--=no luck... When we checked out the next morning, the lady asked how our stay was, I said ok except for the lack of sleep. Her response was, "you had some rowdy ones above you, ha?". Yes, I said and for that reason we may not return again. She has no response. Really, is that customer service????

Room Tip: If you plan on sleeping, get a room on the 3rd floor

Spent 3 nights at Thumper Pond Resort mainly to play golf. Took advantage of the stay and play package the resort offerred. Golf course was in excellent condition and well maintained each day. Very picturesque. The resort is nicely decorated with some furniture, frames and lamps made from tree branches, etc. Food was delicious at Willy T's. Huge portions!! Very friendly staff. Stayed in the King suite with whirlpool. Nice to be able to enjoy a relaxing soak after golf. Spent one morning at Maplewood State Park (approx. 30-40 min. away). Nice park for hikes, beautiful fall colours. Resort has a water park which was fun. 2 waterslides and a lazy river. also has a small kiddie section. Only complaint was that the water park was on winter hours and was only open for 1 evening of our stay.

Promises unkept, water park passes no longer valid that they changed the day we got here. Service is terrible, location, unless you live in bf nowhere, is way out of your way. Dirty rooms, doors that don't close. Don't bother period.

Thank you for your review. We always appreciate feedback as it helps us to improve. Here at Thumper Pond we pride ourselves on providing excellent guest service and clean, comfortable rooms. We train our staff to live up to these standards and our housekeeping staff does daily room inspections to make sure our rooms are impecable.

We are located in Ottertail, MN and sit among 90,000 Red Pine Trees. Our championship 18-hole golf course is carved out of these trees and makes a beautiful view for our guests. We are just minutes from many lakes that provide rich fishing and outdoor entertainment throughout the year.

Our waterpark is open year round with limited hours during the winter months. Please check our website or call us for more detailed information.

Let me first say that I'm not a golfer so can't give any review related to the course or service.

We stayed here for one night for a family function. I know previous reviews expressed high prices for the room. I would say it was a little on the higher end but didn't find it completely ridiculous. Our room ran about $165 (granted we were part of a reserved special price block) but it also included wristbands to the waterpark. I found the bed a little more on the stiff side but that's my personal preference and really had no problems falling alseep or had a sore back in the morning.

The room was nice and clean and spacious with a separate sitting area. Maybe we lucked out with the room lottery but we also got a room with a fireplace and a jacuzzi (though we didn't have any desire to turn on the fireplace in July). We also had a mini fridge and microwave in the room (handy for those to like to bring their own snack and drinks).

I found the service quite nice and they provided extra towels when we stopped at the front desk, gave me a toothbrush (since I forgot mine) and gave us a late check-out upon request.

We stopped at Willy T's for a few drinks and found their prices a bit on the high side.

We also tried out the waterpark and I'm sure it's pretty tame for waterpark enthusiasts, we had a great time! They have two slides; one large one that you ride down in a tube that had sound and a light show as you go through and then a regular slide. There's also a lazy river and a hot-tub for when you need a break from climbing the stairs over and over and over again from the slides.

Overall, it was a good visit!

Thank you for your review. The room you were in is one of our Fireplace Suites. Those rooms have a king bed and a sofa sleeper along with a fireplace and whirlpool tub. They are very large and spacious and also have a refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. Our staff is very helpful and is able to provide you with those necessary toiletry items should you forget them including tooth brushes, tooth paste, shaving cream, razors, deodorant, sewing kits, etc. Our restaurant, Willy T’s is open for all three meals and specializes in large portions and our house-made tator tots. The water park, as you mentioned, has something for all ages ranging from our zero entry toddler pool and slides to the 3-story waterslides and large hot tub.
