We make a day of it driving from the Twin Cities on a regular basis for both lunch and dinner. The Ole Store is our first stop. Food has been consistently good. Creative menu and specials. Attractively served. Friendly and efficient staff. A popular place for locals and visitors.

After eating, we travel on for a long walk in The Big Woods, aka Nerstrand State Park. Great food. Great walk.

The restaurant is tucked into a neighborhood near the St. Olaf campus, about a mile from downtown Northfield. They serve a terrific brunch (no reservations taken so go early) featuring all the favorites (omelets, french toast, waffles, egg dishes, etc) plus delicious giant sweet rolls. They also serve lunch and dinner (reservations taken) and the food is not fancy, but well prepared and homey. Steaks, pasta, ribs, etc. Large portions. Save room for dessert! There was a berry crisp that was delicious and felt like your mom made it for you. This is a popular place with locals and families visiting their kids at college. It is the sort of place that becomes a necessary stop on each trip to Northfield.

The food is so very delicious! A fantastic selection! My husband had the red & blue grilled salad. He's not a big salad eater.... This salad was amazing. We noticed they had recently won an award for the salad. My daughter had a salmon & pasta dish. I had salmon with asparagus & rice. Yum! Yum!

We were going to be leaving Bloomington, MN the next morning on a county road heading south through Northfield, MN bypassing I-35 due to major road construction. We were looking for a place to have breakfast to next morning. I checked out the reviews on Tripadvisor and found the Ole Store Restaurant. What a very pleasant surprise! The restaurant is located in a beautiful neighborhood next to the St. Olaf Collage campus. The dining room was full at 1000 am Sunday morning. We thought that this place must be good. We did not have to wait more than 10 minutes. The food was served Norwegian style, in other words "Large Portions" The coffee is dark roast European style and was fabulous. Our two girls each had the Ole Breakfast which that they enjoyed and was huge. My wife ordered the asparagus egg benedict. It was prepared perfectly. I enjoyed the omelet and an "Ole Roll". The Ole Roll is a local favorite and after you have one you will understand why. The hostess and waitress were both very pleasant and responsive our needs. We will most definitely stop back again and try the lunch/dinner menu. I'm anticipating my next visit to the Ole Store Restaurant. If this restaurant was in a larger city, it would always be packed, but some of it's charm would be lost.

If the Ole Store were located in a Major Metropolitan Area, people would be lining up out the door and down the block. The food, served in large portions, is very very good imaginative American. The house smoked bbq back ribs were the best I've ever eaten. There were raves for the pork loin special, the calamari appetizer, the salmon, the burger, and the amazing bread pudding (one was enough for the seven of us). The wine list is lengthy. Service on a packed Saturday night was somewhat slow but fine with us. Tables are spaced very far apart, so even though the noise level is significant, we were generally able to hear each other. If we lived near Northfield we would visit the Ole Store at least weekly.
