I've been coming to the Brainard area for over 50 years and have stayed in a lot of different resorts. Sonomera Point achieved all of our expetations, everyone was very helpful and had an excellent out look on life

“Wonderful Secluded Gem on Gull Lake”

My wife and I stayed at Samara Point in mid June on a short weekend getaway. We're new to MN, and booked a cabin on a whim. We couldn't have been happier with our choice. Samara point is a beautiful little piece of property on Gull Lake, tucked into a small bay, away from major boat traffic. We stayed in cabin 6, and it was clean, simple, quaintly decorated, and just the right amount of rustic. We spent most of our time on the swing by the beach, or on the cabin's screened in porch at night. Other guests were quiet and friendly.

We rented their pontoon boat on Saturday afternoon. The rental rate is extremely reasonable, and a good bit cheaper than area marinas. Exploring Gull Lake and the surrounding connected water ways was an awesome way to spend the afternoon.

Furthermore, the staff and owners of Samara Point are extremely hospitable. We were welcomed by a chalkboard with our names on the outside of the cabin and a basket of freshly baked cookies. We chatted with Sue, one of the owners, a few times during our stay, and she couldn't have been nicer.

I would highly recommend Samara Point to couples, families, or groups of friends looking for a relaxing up north getaway with killer views, comfortable accommodations, and a perfect location that is isolated from the touristy areas, but close to everything.

How easy was it to book the property? How helpful were the directions to the property?
How easy was key pickup/access to the property? Overall condition of the property

Bathroom cleanliness Other facilities & amenities

Liked best: The attention to detail by all staff, the overall setting
Liked least: Nothing, really. Perhaps the weediness of the swim area, but not much to be done about that!

“Cozy, comfortable and clean!”
Reviewed June 27, 2013 for a stay in June 2013

This resort is owned/managed by a family who takes great pride in their property. The cabins are nicely decorated and well equipped and the grounds were immaculate and constantly attended to by the grounds maintenance crew.
We enjoyed the lakeside swinging benches and the kayaks when not relaxing on the screened porch. This family truly understands the concept of accommodating their visitors. We would love to return to Samara Point!

“Classic North Woods Experience”

My husband and I visited Samara Point during the first week of October. This was our third visit. We have always gone at this time of year, as the fall colors are usually at their peak. This year did not dissappoint! The cabins at Samara Point are classic North woods cabins. If you are expecting a luxury resort, this is not for you. If you love camping and kicking back, you are at the right place. The cabins are very well maintained and clean. The kitchenette is stocked with every utensil needed. This time of year, I do bring my own crockpot, for hot stew after a chilly days fishing. The bedrooms are small, with full size beds. The beds are very comfortable. The bathroom shower is super small, but that is part of the charm! My favorite thing about the cabins is the real fireplace and unlimited supply of firewood. While we enjoy going in the fall, there is a swimming beach that is kept very clean and a play area that would be good for families in warmer weather. The Wallelye fishing is excellent. But you may need a guide to help you, because they can be quite difficult to catch. If you want an authentic North woods camping/fishing experience, i would highly recommend Samara Point!
