“A Fun Historic Park”
Reviewed April 22, 2012

The park at the top of the hill is worth a stop when the statue is open. People can climb for a great view of the city below. There is also a nice playground area for children and picnic shelters to enjoy a whole day at the park.

“Possibly worth the trip”
Reviewed April 2, 2012

When we went the statue was closed so we couldn't climb up the stairs. At another time of the year, perhaps this would be magnificent, looking over the treetops.

“Great place to see the city.”
Reviewed March 23, 2012

As long as you are not afraid of heights, make sure you go all the way up to the top of Hermann, a great place to see the city, especially in the fall with the colors changing.

“Only in New Ulm”
Reviewed October 17, 2011

The Herman the German Statue commemorates the accomplishments of Arminiius, a German Tribal leader who united the German tribes to defeat 3 Roman Legions around the time Christ lived. It has been estimated that between 15,000 and 20,000 Romans their irregulars were ambushed in the Teutoburg Forest in Northern Germany. Historians beleive there were few survivors on the Roman side.

The statue in New Ulm is on a hill overlooking the town of New Ulm. For a very small fee, you can climb to the top of the structure. The views are amazing. The statue itself is copper clad, similar to the Statue of Liberty. If you are in the area do not miss this. There is a small interpertive center in the base of the staute.
