I have drunk Schell's beer for many years. Finally made the trip to the brewery and took the tour. I found a poster in the gift shop for my favorite Schell's brew, Schmaltz's Alt, a wonderful seasonal dark ale that they make. That alone on my shop wall was worth the trip. The brewery tour is full of the history of the brewery and family since 1860. Schell's is the second oldest operating brewery in the country, and still in the family. The grounds are beautiful, the tour interesting and at the end of the tour, the beer tasting is superb. They sell popularly priced beers, and their specialty beers compare very well to other craft beers. It's great to see a Minnesota tradition like Schell's.

The best $3 you'll spend on a tour, even if you don't drink beer. The gardens and grounds are beautiful, including peacocks and other wildlife, and you'll learn some nice history of the area and the nation's 2nd oldest brewery. The small museum is very nice, the gift shop has a large selection of items and the tasting room is a fun experience for everyone. You'll get to sample several different beers plus try a couple more of your favorites afterwards. Their infamous 1919 root beer is also available and worth a sample. Much friendlier atmosphere than some of the big-name national brewery tours.

It is a nice place to go walk around and look at how they have landscaped the area, learn about the history of the company and shop in a nice gift shop that has a variety of products. Everyone that works there are really nice too:)

I've actually been on this tour before, and it's gotten much, much better. They've invested in a new tasting room, video, gift shop, etc. They save the brewing process for the video, and spend most of the tour talking about the history and buildings themselves, which was awesome.

The tasting was cool and a much better experience than other brewers. You get to sample a lot and they talk you through it. Definitely will do it again. And for $3? Holy smokes, that's awesome!

If you are in, near or traveling through Southern Minnesota stop at the Schell Brewery. The town of New Ulm has been fixed up and has a lot of German themed shops, but the brewery on the edge of town was our destination. You wind up a hill to the old, but active brewery dating back to the late 1800s. The tour is short and interesting end in the tasting room. You get a wide, generous sample of the beers. We then went to the garden patio and kept sampling. Make sure you have a designated driver. They also have a big gift shop.
