We went to Spasso for the first time last night. We were pleasantly surprised. We started with happy hour appetizers and happy hour wine. All were fairly priced and tasty. We had the spicy green beans and crab cakes, portions were large enough to share.
Two of our three entrees were delicious. The Chiopino has 5 kinds of fish in a thick, richly flavored tomato broth which we happily sopped up with the crunchy bread accompaniment. Each piece of fish was prepared to just the right texture. Nothing rubbery or chewy. The second entree was the Chop chop salad. Highly recommended! The diversity of flavors caught me by surprise. Each bite had a different morsel I had not anticipated. Green olives, balsamic vinegar, pine nuts, etc. The only disappointment was the turkey burger. It was bland and flavorless. It could easily have been confused with one of the frozen veggie burgers from the local grocery store. Pass on the turkey burger, there are lots of other great choices on the menu. We will return and may take advantage of their shuttle service.

Spasso is a welcome addition to Minnetonka however I truly wish the food was better! The best bet is to sit at the bar and order appetizers, esp. the risotto balls and the bacon wrapped scallops. The bartenders are fun and friendly, too. Unfortunately I've never had a good "real meal" here - over-dressed salads, greasy pizzas, bland pasta -nothing special at all. The manager is also unfriendly and seems to get angry when the bar is crowded. Huh? Guess he doesn't want the business.....

If you love wine and are looking for a good casual meal, set your sights on Spasso in Minnetonka. In addition to the highly-rated list of wines on the menu, you can purchase bottles from the adjacent wine shop and bring them into the restaurant with no additional cost or corkage fees (and it's a great little wine shop with many reasonably priced bottles with high markers from Robert Parker, et al.). Menu favorites include wood-fire pizzas, tenderloin tip fondutta, mixed greens salad, steaks and grilled meat loaf. A complimentary car service is also available for special occasions.

Last visit was on a Friday night. Got in without a reservation in about 20 mins. They have a nice beer list, and really good wine by the glass program. Charcuterie plate was really good. Had the spare ribs too. Fork tender and tasty. Dessert menu was a little lacking. When it's really busy here, it can be hard to hear. But will definitely be back.

We just love this place! It is a high quality restaurant in every respect - good food, good wine, good service - and yet there is a refreshing air of unpretentiousness about it. It is our neighbor restaurant and bar and go there often for happy hour and dinner. Sometimes we stop at the wine shop and sample what they are featuring and then buy a bottle to be uncorked in the restaurant at no extra charge.
