“Excellent motel - Convenient and clean with friendly staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 18, 2011

I think this motel was excellent in all regards. Very friendly staff all round, great room and breakfast.

I caught the shuttle bus into the city and they dropped me off at the Foshay Tower which is where I wanted to go. Then I leisurely walked back to the motel crossing the Mississippi River on the way.

One of the nicer motels that I stayed in on my 3 month holiday in the U.S. Parking is free - they will give you a tag to place in your car.

Very good desk people. All the coin machines , microwave, ice machines, breakfast room should be in one place. Also no windows or tv in breakfast room. Still fine stay in a great part of town. Great price.

First off, I would like to personally thank you for your recent stay.

I'm glad that you were able to enjoy staying not only in our hotel, but also in this wonderful part of town. I would like to say that here at the Days Hotel, we try our best to have all of our amenities and machine location to be as convenient as possible for all our guests that stay here. I do understand that having all of these machines would be easier to find if they were all located in one area. As you said, our location is very convenient for a lot of things in the area, one of these is the hospital on the university campus. That being said, we do have hosptial patients that stay with us and try to have the machines on the different floors so that guests don't have to walk too far to access them.

As for the breakfast room, I'm happy to say that we are currently undergoing renovations to this area of our hotel. The new and improved breakfast will will be more open and inviting, with access to our patio deck on those nice summer mornings along with windows or course.

Thanks again for staying and if you're ever in the area again, we do hope you certainly come back and visit us. Thank you.

Comfortable room--reasonable price. I had a meeting on the St. Paul campus. Hotel is a two block walk to the campus connector bus stop so I was able to avoid parking fees by staying parked in the hotel lot (they advertise that as a feature).

this hotel was very cheap and very conveniently located right on the U of M campus which is what we went for was to visit a U of M student. his apartment ended up being right across the street so that was great and it was the best rate i could find for what i thought would be a decent room. i'm not too picky since i don't spend a lot of time in my room and we are smokers so don't expect top notch or anything. but this hotel was kind of ridiculous.

1. room was pretty bad. very small, tv picture was "staticky" on all the cable channels, bed was rock hard, drapes/bed linens/decor was from the 1970s. there were no sheer curtains only the blackout ones. window only opened a tiny crack and the heat was either too hot or too cold, no in between probably because the mechanism to run it was very old too. there was no padding under the carpet which was also pretty icky looking and the floor was hard and cold to walk on, not to mention the seams weren't even cut straight between the living area and bathroom the carpet seam was crooked and frayed. the bathroom was tiny and had some stains in places and hairs all over the ceiling above the shower so when you looked up while showering there were long black hairs above you. shower had good pressure but turned hot and cold at times. there was a fridge in the room but it ran very loud which affected our sleep and no microwave which was kind of odd. i felt itchy the whole time i slept although i did check for bugs and didn't notice any and haven't noticed any since i've been home i think just looking around the room made me feel that way.

2. noise-besides the fridge in the room running loudly all night also there are shuttle buses that go to the hospital i think that run outside in the back parking lot right outside the room windows all night long. i don't have the best hearing so i didn't hear it but my fiancee complained he could hear them all night.

3. service-the front desk was ok but they just handed me my room key, didn't tell me where my room was or anything. then they ask for your plate # and when i got to my car i realized the one i gave them one digit was off. so on the way out next time we went out i stopped to tell them and they said as long as i have a green tag in the window i won't get towed. well they never gave me a green tag to begin with.

so overall, it's a cheap price but you get what you pay for. if you are visiting the university for one night and want to save money and can tolerate kind of a bad room then it's fine. the next hotel we stayed at the next night was much nicer, cleaner, newer, and a jacuzzi suite was only $98 (advance purchase rate) and about 10-15 minutes from the school. super 8 bloomington, we liked it much better. i would not stay at this days inn again.

from the start i knew something wasn't right when the big lit sign on the side just says "Days Hotel" instead of "Days Inn Hotel" - weird.

Room Tip: advance purchase rate

Dear Traveler,

First off I would like to personally apologize for your recent stay with us in regards to the inconveniences you have experienced.

In regards to the room and the amenities, I want to apologize that the quality and presentation of the room was not what you expected. We take pride in our ability to provide a clean & comfortable stay for every guest that spends their time here at the Days Hotel.

Unfortunately, right now we are only able to offer either rooms with the one queen bed or rooms with two double beds. We currently do not have any suites in the hotel so all of the rooms are of the standard size, same as you would find in most hotels of the Days Inn brand. We do provide free cable to all our guests and was sorry to hear that the picture on the television in your room was “staticky”. I do know that the front desk can solve most problems or issues within our hotel, all it takes is a quick call to the front desk and we would be more than willing to correct any issues with your room. As for the A/C/Heater unit in the room, the setting for the thermostat on the unit does have two controls, one for the actual temperature setting and one to either activate the fan, heat, or A/C mode. Both of these should be set optimally to achieve your preferred temperature setting. In regards to the shower temperature, we do see how the controls may cause some confusion as to attaining the nominal temperature as you have to lift up the handle either to the right or left depending on how hot or warm you need the water versus the traditional method of turning the handle. We would like to assure you and all of our guests that we are currently in the process of undergoing renovations for a good number of our rooms in the hotel along with upgrading and expanding the breakfast room. Hopefully with these renovations we will be able to address most if not all of the issues you experienced, including the carpeting, curtains, bathroom, etc..

As for the noise behind the hotel on 4th street, you are correct in your assumption that there were shuttle buses that go back and forth along that street. We are, as you said very convenient for guests coming and going from the University and unfortunately a part of that convenience comes with the fact that the campus shuttles and city bus services do use 4th street as a thoroughfare for their students and guests. Please be assured that we do not allow any buses to run in our back lot all night as it would cause a great distress for not only our guests in the hotel but also for us.

I would like to apologize for the fact that the front desk failed to inform you as to the location of your room when you checked in. As we are a smaller hotel, we take great pride in our service to all our guests and our abilities to fulfill all guest needs at the front desk. As you say they did not inform you of the location of your room, this issue will be addressed to all team members as informing you of your room location, check-out time, breakfast times and parking rules for the hotel should have been addressed with all guests at check-in.

I want you to know that we do take pride in not only the quality of our hotel, but also being able to provide the high levels of guest service and instilling that quality into all of our team members, from the Housekeeping staff to the Front Desk team. This is what makes our location a Days Hotel and not just a regular Days Inn. The quality of our rooms, team members, amenities, all of this is what we take pride in so again, I personally apologize that your stay did not go as expected. We certainly take note and learn from all our guests reviews to better ourselves as a property and as a brand.

If you have any further questions or comments in regards to your stay, please do not hesitate to contact us directly. Thank you.

We have stayed at your hotel several times. Your employees are nice and the location and price are good. The only complains are the quality of the towels and bedding. The towels are very rough, the toliet paper is very low quality, and the sheets are so thin and worn they aren't comfortable. Worse of all are your pillows, we bring our own so it is not a huge deal for us, but probably is for others. They are so lumpy its like you just stuffed, stuffing in a pillow case. These all seem like easy fixes, I know they might cost a little, but would increase the quality of the stay immensely.

I came to the Days Hotel to drop my daughter off at college. We are from out of town and we were using this time as a mini-vacation to Minneapolis. The location was great because my daughter could utilize the shuttle to get to and from campus and the rest of the family used it as well. The staff was very helpful with letting us know where we could go and how to get there, whether it was by shuttle or the light rail. It was very convenient! I would highly reccomend this hotel to anyone traveling to the area, for any reason. The price is right, the location is perfect, the staff is friendly and the rooms were updated and comfortable! You definitely get your moneys worth at this hotel, while sparing yourself the downtown prices!
