This is not a place you dress up and bring the wife to, it's a quick stop on the way home. The neighborhood is sketchy for sure, with street types of people hanging around. Lotus however, is outstanding......so it's worth my stop. The beef pho is the best I've ever had, by far....the kao pung chicken is also outstanding.

The best part about this place though, is the owners and their family. Every time I stop in here, they remember me and ask how my wife and I are doing......and I only stop once every few months.....this goes a LONG way for me.

I would highly recommend a stop here, food and people are great......just don't hang around outside, it's shady for sure.

This place is on Grant Street about three blocks west of the Convention Center in downtown's only strip mall. The atmosphere would stink, but for the great people who work there--they are a lot of fun.

If you're a phan of pho, you will phind the pho very adequate--they give you the plate of basil, sprouts, jalapenos and hoisin, peppers, and oyster sauce. You can customize it to your liking, although you don't really need to--its a good broth to begin with. They have tender beef and meatballs in the beef version; a large is a VERY hearty meal. The chicken curry, which is a dry curry-just chicken and onions is really, really good.

If your at the Convention Center, don't eat the catered lunch or the snack bars, sneak out and walk west a couple of blocks-- you won't regret it.

This little restaurant is located in a tiny, somewhat grungy strip mall just off Nicollet Mall. It isn't a destination restaurant, but it definitely is where neighbors head for excellent Vietnamese food and snacks (with a few dishes from other Asian cuisines thrown in as well). You can eat there -- but lots of folks phone first and pick up take out for lunch and dinner. The family owned place has been there for years - the owners' 4 sons grew up behind the counter. Mom and Dad aren't in the restaurant any more - but the sons, their wives, and the grandchildren are all there.

Just about anything on the menu is very good. Our favorites: BBQ pork pho, BBQ pork spring rolls, vegetarian fried egg roll salad and mock duck salad. And we find the portions quite ample. This place has developed into our spot for comfort food on difficult days, as well as for a break from the stove or from fancy restaurants nearby. (BTW, after years of 7 days a week service, it is now closed on Sundays.,)

I don't think they serve alcohol. We ordered shrimp spring rolls, seafood pho and beef pho and flan. The spring rolls were pretty good and the hoisin/peanut sauce was good. The pho was surprisingly good and authentic. The small sizes were pretty small for the price...$5.99 each but the beef pho had plenty of beef. Close to millennium and Hyatt regency hotels.

Absolutely nothing special. No alcohol served here. Had an attempted mugging on the way back to my hotel
