I enjoyed a great stay at the The Normandy Inn in downtown Minneapolis for a second straight year. There are no words to explain how exceptional the staff is at this facility. Mike, the owner, is a genuinely nice man with an obvious dedication to quality and professionalism. Jeff and Heidi at the front desk are outstanding representatives of the hotel. They are very polite, professional and always willing to help. The shuttle service is outstanding...fast and convenient. The food in the restaurant is exceptional as is the service. My server, Dan, was another extention of high quality of service expected at this beautiful hotel. The rooms are clean, big, the beds and pillows are comfortable, the towels are clean and fresh...everything you would expect a great hotel to be is delivered here. The surrounding area of downtown Minneapolis is so convenient. All the restaurants, nightlife and shopping is literally within walking distance. The light rail station is 3 blocks from the hotel if you want to get to Target Field or Mall of America. This is an exceptional hotel at more than reasonable rates. So, thank you again to Mike and everyone at the The Normandy Suites for a great stay and I look forward to my next stay.

Sure, it has a faux tudor beam & plaster exterior - but they keep it up inside as well. If you, like me, prefer to have your stay in each city be unique then the Normandy is for you. Unlike a hilton/crowne/sheraton, where you could literally be awakening anywhere and it would be exactly the same you'll remember staying here.
It's about 4.5 blocks to the convention center, an easy walk. The staff was universally friendly and helpful. We stayed in two different rooms (a regular & a suite) due to business and found each clean, comfortable, and relaxing. Coin-op laundry, safety deposit boxes, plentiful parking, stand full of "loaner" umbrellas by the door, wifi.

Attended a week long conference at the convention center in Downtown Minneapolis. The Best Western - Normandy Inn & Suites was a recommended hotel and was the same price or $10 less than higher end hotels nearer to the convention center. I'm guessing the idea was to make it look old but they didn't need to work at that. It appears to be three buildings linked together. It doesn't appear to be updated in a while.

The people at the front desk were mixed; some were great, others were terrible. The restaurant always took to long to serve but the food was decent and the people were nice (45 minutes for a single person two egg breakfast?). The bar folks were great. Pool was decent. Rooms were run down. Guess I was lucky enough to get a room by the elevators and the ice maker, but it wouldn't have mattered since it was right by a noisy street anyway. The cleaning staff did a decent job.

Summary: Outdated, poor value, too far away from the convention center. Spend a few more bucks and stay at a higher end chain; it's worth it.

Room Tip: Look elsewhere; noisy roads around this old hotel

Thank you for sharing your commments. Guests comments are a valuable opportunity for us to learn and improve the experience our guests have at the Normandy Inn.

I'm sorry your experience at the Normandy Inn was not entirely enjoyable for you. We work hard to make the Normandy Inn and Suites the best value in Minneapolis, and we want all our guests to be satisfied. Perhaps there are specific issues we can address for you. We'd be pleased to hear from you to resolve your disappointment. Certainly, waiting 45 minutes for breakfast is not acceptable, and I would like to adjust the charge from your bill.

Overall, comments from our guests reflect very favorably on the Normandy's value, quality and convenience. Our prices are often half of those charged by the large luxury hotels in the area, and our $7.00 parking fee is only a fraction of the $25.00 fee that is typical in our downtown area.

Our rooms and suites were all remodeled in 2008, and offer the most current features and ammenities, including large work desks with ergonomic chairs, new 37" flat screen LG TV,s, pillow top mattresses with fluffy duvet covers, and extra nice appoinments such as a granite vanity and extra large shower head. Our guests enjoy 2 free bottles of water each day in their room, and, of course, freshly baked chocolate chip cookies every night.

Very Sincerely,

Normandy Inn General Manager

The Normandy Inn is a very nice hotel, with an excellent cafe, clean, and a very
cordial and helpful staff. A nice added touch is the just baked warm chocolate
cookies and cold milk served in the lobby every night at 10:00.

Good parking, many excellent dining places within walking distance, easy access
to the downtown skywalk and light rail transportation, close to Target Field and
Target Center.

We would highly recommend this hotel!

Room Tip: All the rooms are great

I picked this hotel on the basis of the good reviews on TA. I was not disappointed. Staff was excellent. The restaurant (Normandy Kitchen) served a good breakfast, although for my tastes a bit pricey. One feature not pointed out in other reviews is the convenience of the Skyway. Walk 50 yards north on 4th Avenue, and enter the large building on your left. This gives you access to the Skyway. For example, I was able to walk from there to Nicollet mall on a cloudy, cool day. What helps is if you can get a map of the Skyway's linkages, or just explore.

Did a girls trip to the melting pot, at first we were leary pulling up. Our suite was roomy and surprisingly very up to date and clean. Wanted to swim when we got back, but John the night security guard was kinda cranky with us. The very nice front desk guy apoligized for him and we scurried back up to our room....check out was a breeze. No continental breakfast...but two free bottles of water...$7.00 to park...Lobby a bit dated, but I would stay here again in a heartbeat!!!

The Marriott was booked for some convention this week so I had to made a reservation at this place for a night. It is not connected to the Minneapolis building tunnels which means you have to walk outside through the 40 degree snow/rain weather in April.

This place feels like a motel 6.
dislikes:
The carpet is old and dirty,
The ac/heater is so loud it wakes you up.
The shower stream is weak and not that warm.
The beds/mattress are crappy and lumpy
There are no immediate taxis waiting outside

I'm going back the Marriott
