“Great walk through history”
Reviewed March 28, 2012

It's a large cemetary with lots of Minnesota historical markers. Be sure to visit the graves of Senator Paul Wellstone, Hubert Humphrey and many others.

“Must see the Memorial Chapel ceiling mosaic.”
Reviewed March 10, 2012

The Lakewood Memorial Chapel is awesome. It is often open during the day if there is no funeral. To quote the website of the cemetery, "The chapel interior was created by New York designer Charles Lamb and many consider it the most perfect example of Byzantine mosaic art in the United States." The ceiling has an awesome mosaic view of 12 beautiful angels, each one different.

“Quiet, peaceful, with an architectural gem of a chapel.”
Reviewed February 1, 2012

You must visit the chapel, a scaled down version of Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, built by Minnesota stone masons and decorated with Italian mosaic tiles. Drive or walk around the beautiful grounds, and spend a few minutes by the grave of Senator Paul Wellstone that overlooks Lake Calhoun.

“One of our biggest, there is a lot of history here.”
Reviewed January 19, 2012

Even though this is a cemetery, if you like history you will find some famous people buried here, including our senator Paul Wellstone. Well-maintained and very serene. A beautifully-kept cemetery.
