This is one of the lesser traveled lakes (although still very popular), but compared to Calhoun this is pretty quiet. The houses are gorgeous and their grandeur adds to a pretty amazing experience of walking and looking at the sights and sounds of the urban lake scene....highly recommend.

The outstanding walking and bike paths take you around this beautiful lake with a city scene on one side and country on the other. They have soime wonderful events in the band shell and the city side has a great selection of shops and restaurants. The lake itself is the best part, scenic and peaceful.

If you enjoy walking and biking with stress in the crowd, you will love this place.... but i you love nature, be quiet, relax and cool place, you will hate it... it's a lovely scenic area but more like an attraction park where people go for a walk or sport....

This lake is also a wonderful place to go and spend some lazy afternoons swimming, picnicking, barbecuing, and listening to the orchestra in the bandshell on the Northwest side of the lake in the evening. There's a trolley that runs about a mile here to take customers back and forth. Just off 50th And Penn on the south side to about 44th on the north. It's almose easier to take 50th, Interlachen Blvd. west to MN 100!

I learned to swim in this lake at three years old, the old 47th beach so it's a favorite of mine. It's always been a special place for a walk, run, bike ride, concert or ice cream at the pavilion. Many races through the year with the two theme runs in the autumn which are really fun! Do the trolley at least once and get a little history lesson in the process. Lake Harriet is a very social lake. Seems I always run into someone I know. It's very congested on summer weekends. The only challenge is that the bike trail can be dangerous approaching the bandstand area. Bikers and folks on roller blades fly and there are just too many people during peak times, especially during concerts for this.
I usually wrap up my time at Lake Harriet with a short walk over to Linden Hills to get a great coffee, BBQ at Famous Dave's, visit Great Harvest or stop and shop at any of the numerous little stores. People are super friendly in this neighborhood! Terrific and favorite area of Minneapolis.
