This place was recommended to us by local cyclists we stopped to chat with while waiting for a train to pass. The restaurant sit along the banks of Lake Calhoun in Minneapolis--right along the bike path. All outside dining but as close to the water as you can get. It can get spendy but the food is excellent--a special treat.

The Tin Fish is at least a five-step improvement over the concession stands of yesteryear who sold stale popcorn and even older dry pretzels with caked yellow mustard. We stopped there tonight for an early dinner (4:30 Sunday afternoon). Even at that time, there was a long line - which moved steadily. I tried the grilled walleye sandwich. Certainly not fine dining, but probably the best fish you'll find lakeside anywhere in the twin cities. It's a fun and novel approach to lakeside dining - and altho it's pricier than many will want to spend for a picnic, it really is a fun alternative, and worth it a few times during the summer. Wish there were a few more tables available, but the minimal seating seemingly brought out the Minnesota Nice in many folks, as we noticed lots of communal table sharing going on between unrelated parties. Nice to see the sharing, and nice to see such a great community vibe happening around the lakes.

Great fish meals on the patio overlooking Lake Calhoun. Limited menue but excellent food and beverages. Some non fish and kids choices. There are some sheltered tables. Family owned small business. Great staff. Please don't get on line ahead of me (just kidding) Bring a hat because you may wait a while in prime time

I concur on the previous reviewss--it is a "FABULOUS EXPERIENCE"
We got to Tin Fish about 1:00 and line was still long but the day was beautiful--sunny & warm. Having a beer/wine while waiting in line is a great bonus. The area is gorgeous and on that Fall day the water & trees created great atmosphere.
I thought the food was really good--we had the fried fish tacos and the waffle fries-it came out hot -oh much yummier can it get--

My son walked us to the Tin Fish from Calhoun Square shopping a few weeks ago with his family..they had been many times...first for us. Great view on a nice day when one can outdoor dine. Food & beer on pricey side...but no competition..so one pays for the ambience! We all enjoyed..there can be a wait for food as you order from window and they bring it to you at tables under the roof or on outdoor patio. Took my grandson out on the pier while we waited and he enjoyed all the blue gills and minnows in the water. Very nice & we would return when in the area in summer.
