We ate at the Wienery on a Sunday afternoon at 2pm. The place was packed with people waiting to get a seat. We were lucky and got a seat almost immediately. There were only two employees working, not that there was really room for a third, and they were almost overwhelmed. It was over 15 minutes before we could place our order and we were there an hour before we got our food. Out hot dogs were the best we have ever had, without a doubt. Really good. But an hour to wait for hot dogs seems a bit much.

The place has lot of character, but is very small. I would go back, but not at a "prime time".

If you're looking for plush seating, FORGET IT! If you're in the mood for awesome Vienna franks dressed as you like, COUNT ON IT! Wienery is situated in a predominantly Muslim neighborhood and offers breakfast as well as the specialty - the dogs - all day long! Counter stools are better than the table seats and afford one with near immediate service. Drinks are self serve but all else comes directly from the adjacent kitchen. Definitely a dive yet the food is great!

Small interesting cafe in the heart of the University's West Bank/Cedar Avenue neighborhood.
Sandwiches, especially hot dogs and sausage, soft drinks, coffee and iced tea are pretty much
the menu. I recommend sausage over the hot dog and to sit at the counter. It's cash only, but the
eclectic row of books above the counter, including a well-used copy of the American Heritage
Dictionary (3rd ed) reminds one of Jimmy's (the Woodlawn Tap) on Chicago's southside near the
University of Chicago. But there's no beer! Otherwise it would be perfect for what you get. Still
after a quick lunch, you can walk across the street to the Acadia Cafe where there is an excellent
selection of beers and ales on tap.

I'm a hot dog lover and have been waiting to try one at the Wienery...FINALLY!!! What a yummy dog! Don't dress up, it is a bit scary from the street, but soooo worth it. A dog, fries and a drink for $5.50. Vienna beef frank or polish--dressed any way you want or try one of the specialty dogs. The Briny Dog was a hit with me. Sauerkraut, pickle and gardeniera (sp)...Spicy and just plain wonderful. We saw the original Diner's, Drive-Ins and Dives that featured the Wienery and they were right--One great dog! We'll be back!

We were SO incredibly disappointed by this "dive" (I would say DUMP instead) that we walked in, sat down and walked out. The place was filthy, I mean -- disgusting, over-the-top gross.

The waitress handed us two plastic glasses and pointed to the soda machine. My husband asked if there was ice and she replied: NO ICE. What? Who doesn't have ice?

The menu was gross, I could barely stand to look at it with the dried, caked on food. Everywhere we looked was grossly dirty.

We were so excited having seen this restaurant on Guy's show. I'm quite sure that many locals tried it like we did, maybe they didn't have the nerve to leave, but there was no way we were going to eat in a dump. A real bummer.
