First off, we had a Groupon to use at this restaurant which we thought would be a nice opportunity for a family meal. However, the fact that it was only usable Monday through Friday was missed and we had planned to use it on a Sunday.
We had been to another Egg and I and so we thought we knew what to expect. But sadly we were disappointed. This Egg and I in Minneapolis is an eclectic place at best. Worn out Formica table tops with chrome legs which were showing rust. The table tops and sides were stained, dirty, and chipped. But our food was served warm and cooked the way it was requested. The pancakes were quite large but no better than elsewhere in taste. I ordered two eggs, hash browns, wheat toast and the choice of meat included corn beef hash, or another meat choice. I tried to substitute the hash for the hash browns but the waitress would not allow that. I argued it was pointless to have both hash browns and hash, but she pointed to the writing on the wall board which stated NO SUSTITUTIONS. Consequently the order of hash browns were only half eaten and thus wasted. They were too thick and soft although the outside was crusty as they should be. The eggs were ordered over easy and they were so that was a plus. The hash was institutional but was okay. The coffee, however, tasted like ordinary restaurant coffee, a dark liquid with no body to it, stuff you could find in any hospital restaurant. No straws were served with the kids drinks and consequently there was a spill which totally ruined the day for the 4-year old that it happened to.
This is definitely a hash house with no couth and the same fare can be found elsewhere in the city for a good 20% less.
