“Truly amazing, well balanced food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 24, 2012

This is one of my favorite restaurants. I often went there on special occasions when I lived in the area. I thought the quality had come down a little bit the last time I went there (about 18 months ago). I just went back and it was divine. The food was well-balanced and delightful. The portions are small but not tiny. It is truly a fine-dining inexpert in a cozy atmosphere. I've often gone for personal time but this was a business meeting and it was lovely.

“A treat”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 12, 2012

Our children treated us to Alma when we visited from out of town - it was indeed a treat. The menus are seasonal and locally sourced, the resulting dishes are excellently prepared, and the wines are chosen with care. All together a fine dining experience.

“No longer trying to be the best.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 6, 2012

We've had delicious meals here before but I think they're beginning to let things slide. Overall, very high prices for what we received. The flan appetizer was delicious, but a simple preparation that I often make at home; price $11! A tiny lobster ceviche at $18 was truly ordinary. The pasta with sausage and tomato sauce was ho hum. The pork dish was simply boneless pork chops and a hunk of thick slice bacon (more or less) served with sauteed kale; price $27! The pork chops were dry and tough and the dish simply did not have much flavor. The mahi mahi was better but small portion and big price. The chef here is a top award winner but perhaps he's resting on his laurels. I hope he finds a little drive to push him forward. After this meal, we won't be returning.

“Divine”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 17, 2012

Alma may be the best overall dining experience in the Cities. We went with a group of friends and basically divvied up most dishes. Everything we ordered off the current (9/12) menu was simply superb; the summer vegetable salad, duck, chicken and heirloom corn polenta were especially terrific. All the wines are reasonably well-priced, and service was equally top-notch. The whole atmosphere was one of quiet, casual elegance -- you could actually carry on a soft conversation at your table, and the place was full!. One of the most comfortable, wonderful evenings out we've had in a while.
