Description: Since 1994 Broders' Pasta Bar has been serving house made and quality imported pastas and risottos, focusing both on Italian regional traditions as well as seasonal & local ingredients. We source from Midwest farms, when possible, and grow vegetables in our own parking lot garden (weather permitting, of course!) but really, it's about the pasta. Located across W. 50th Street from Broders’ Cucina Italiana, the original deli and specialty food shop, Molly and Tom Broder opened the Pasta Bar - to cook the pasta they were selling the way it was meant to be: fresh, al dente, perfectly sauced and thoughtfully executed. Still, and always, family owned and operated, Broders' continually strives to serve great Italian food and wine from our corner in Southwest Minneapolis. We hope to welcome you, whether at the Cucina, Pasta Bar, or the newest addition, Terzo, our contemporary Italian restaurant & wine bar. Saluti!

“Worth the wait!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 1, 2012

Not sure if it's changed since I was there. I haven't lived ni Minneapolis for awhile, so unfortunately I can't visit regularly. I definitely would if I could. The pasta is fresh and creative. I distinctly remember a dish made with asparagus, fresh curls of parmesan, and balsamic viniegar. It was amazing! I will soon make a special trip just to stop here.

“Pasta Doughs are Fantastic; Sauce...be Choosy”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 28, 2012

It has been a while since I ate at Broders. My last experience was less than favorable, but it seems others really like it so I decided to give it another chance.

I ordered the Butternut squash ravioli and the fettuccine bolognese. Both were good, but you need to separate the pasta itself from the accompaniments. The pasta dough was delicious in both, just a touch of semolina gave it a little depth of flavor and it was rolled to the perfect thickness in both preparations. So no doubt that the pasta make knows his/her stuff.

The butternut squash filling was very tasty, full of the sweetness from the squash. A simple brown butter and walnuts were the sauce, a traditional preparation with lots of sage. I would recommend moving some of the sage to the side, it was a little too much but easily managed at the table.

The bolognese was a different story. I was disappointed. It was more a simple meat sauce than a luscious deep flavored and long simmered bolognese. The flavors were just tomato and meat with just a slight enhancement from some totally emulsified carrots. It is too bad since the pasta was so good.

I would say that the pasta was a bit overcooked, but I am a fan of a slightly more al dente than most, so unless you like it as I do, the doneness should satisfy.

Overall, Broders comes off the DNR list, but definitely not on the must return list.

As an aside, be aware that they do not accept AMEX, only visa and mastercard.

“Authentic Italian”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 12, 2012

This is a hidden gem in the Twin Cities. The best Italian in the area and prices that won't brake the pocketbook. The only downside is that the dining area is crowded and can be loud....but, that is a small price to pay for superior food

“A must-try!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 6, 2012

Excellent food with great service. I agree with other reviewers that it's not the best choice for kids. A fun place for special occasion meals. Broder's also has a pizza restaurant across the street, which is very good.

“best in the midwest”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 1, 2012

Broder's has excellent, authentic Italian food, a great staff, cozy setting. Prices are reasonable. Fun vibe but not too noisy. Don't forget an after dinner espresso, they pull a great shot. Not a great place for small children, leave the kids home and have a lovely date. They don't take reservations but do have a wait list so you can call ahead. Even in November, their patio was open, with outdoor heaters, a fire pit, even blankets. A bit nippy, but a glass of wine and an appetizer take away the chill.
