The falls were pretty, could not get the phone to work past 2 items, (call and it guides you through the park) as first time visitors we didn't know where to go or what we were really seeing. People were kind enough to help guide us to go past the 5th bridge to end up at the Mississippi River. It was a good walk! Worth the trip!

On Father's Day 2014 my husband and I took our kids and 2 dogs to the pasr for a hike along the creek. The paths are well maintained and normally pretty dry too but with the water level being so high right now there were a few places where the creek was up over the bank or there were pools of water that were just starting to dry out and could be easily bypassed. Despite the wetter conditions it was still a very enjoyable hike. The falls were really amazing to see and we saw several larger trees that had been washed down the creek - some partially stuck under bridges. At the park itself you can eat at Sea Salt Restaurant, have a picnic at one of the many tables, rent a bike or a surrey from Wheel Fun ($12-$30/hour) to explore the park or the kids can play on the newly remodeled playground. The playground itself is really nice with benches for parents to sit on as the kids play on the equipment but the grounds around there are still very muddy as they haven't sodded/seeded it yet.
On our way back to the car we saw a large snapping turtle in one of the parking lots - keep your eyes open, you never know what you will see!
You do need to pay for parking ($0.75/hour) but there isn't a fee to enjoy the park and hiking trails.

Fun hiking trails, fun bike rental, tasty restaurant. Get there early to get close parking! Or better yet, take the light rail.

This park was a beautiful city park that does not feel like a city park. We had visited after heavy rain fall, so we saw a flooded creek with a full waterfall. The pathways and park itself are beautifully built with scenic trails that wind around the Mississippi River area and Minnehaha creek. All of the people in the park were friendly to talk to and were proud of this park in their city. We stopped before our flight home as it is only minutes from the airport and the Mall of America.

We took the lightrail to get here and it was super easy. Amazing that such a large and "real" waterfall is so close to everything. We then walked the trail (which was very muddy and slippery - we had some rain the day before) down to the end, the Mississippi. Nice easy hike. Wear bug juice as we both got eaten by mosquitos (we went about 10am). When you get off the lightrail at Minnehaha cross the main street and continue walking towards the left, maybe 5 mins. You will see an old building and you are almost there, the trail in front of that building pretty much leads you to where you hear the falls. Maybe 10 min total from when we got off the light rail. Then got back on the lightrail (your ticket is good for 2 hours) and continued on to the Mall of Americas.
