“Great, when the falls are operating”
Reviewed December 31, 2012

Minnehaha park is a great stop, but be warned, the falls are controlled and not always on. The grounds are safe and clean and there are some really cool old houses/monuments to look at. There is also a seafood hut (for lack of better term) which is always extremely fresh (but only open in summer).

“Great place to enjoy the outdoors with family!”
Reviewed December 29, 2012

Hiking trails, a small disc golf course, a kiddy pool, a playground, a picnic, and the Falls! Who could ask for anything more? Great place to take the family or meet up with some friends. There are gorgeous hiking trails along Minnehaha Creek that lead to the Missississippi River (beach at trail's end is great spot to skip stones).

The park is free to enter and use...some areas have parking fees and it can get very full on weekends.

If you are a disc golfer, there is a short and easy course in the Wabun Picnic Area (near the kiddie pool/playground) that is a great place to introduce kids to the sport.

Oh, by the way, the falls are beautiful!

“Minnehaha Falls is wonderful!”
Reviewed December 4, 2012

It is absolutely beautiful. Everyone who visits the Twin Cities should see the falls. You can follow the creek down to the Mississippi River below the locks too.

“My favorite Minneapolis park”
Reviewed November 11, 2012

I LOVE the falls, bridges and the trail down to the Mississippi River. There is a great spot down the trail where parents bring their kids to wade in the water.

“In the footsteps of "Hiawatha"”
Reviewed November 9, 2012

Minnehaha Park is known for the falls that give this south Minneapolis park its name. The creek flowing out of the basin of the falls continues east towards it's confluence with the mighty Mississippi just below the Ford Dam. The path along this 1.5 mile journey leads hikers through the mini canyon created by the creek, under a canopy of northern hardwoods, alongside a variety of wetland wildflowers, eventually to the steep banks of Old Man River himself. The path can be muddy at times with a few toe-catchers along the way, especially if you take the woodsy backside instead of the main thoroughfare (I don't even know if the lesser path through the brush is even still there?). It's a pleasant walk between the creek and the yellow-tan sandstone walls that rise up to offer a glimpse of blue sky beyond the lattice-work branches overhead. Once you reach the river, you'll see folks picnicking, tossing rocks into the current or just enjoying the cooling shade on a hot Minneapolis afternoon. The descent down the long, long flight of stairs from the parking lot up at the level with the lip of the falls awaits your climb back up at the end of this 3-mile loop, but the journey will be well worth it.
