Rachel's resides within an old small funeral home which is partly what gives it its charm. Nice architectural flourishes, warm colors, bright blue and white checkered table cloths, interesting and not too loud background music make Rachel's feel very European and cozy. There is a separate bar area at the front of the restaurant with big windows for people watching.
The menu is not too elaborate or long, and what they do, they do well. Fabulous hamburgers, great sweet potato fries, and a killer egg and olive sandwich are old stand-bys. They offer a delicious appetizer of seared scallops on soba noodles, and a favorite of ours - Moules Frite, done with nice, succulent mussels. It's a wonderful place to go with friends where can actually enjoy the food and carry on a conversation with resorting to shouting, as in so many places these days. The staff is very welcoming and attentive.
In warm weather, Rachel's has one of the better out-door dining areas in town.
