“Right across from passport office”
Reviewed December 27, 2013

I recently stayed at the Renaissance when I had a passport snafu. I needed to be as close as possible to the office and this hotel was the closest. Check-in was flawless and, since we have status at the hotel, I was offered a free hot breakfast in the morning. The room was lovely with robes, a flat screen tv, Aveda toiletries, and nice magazines. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was well-appointed. Breakfast had a nice selection of hot and cold options and the service was very good, even for a buffet. Everyone at the hotel was very friendly. They have a nice Town Car available to take patrons to and from the airport. The rate is very comparable to a regular taxi. My driver was very personable and efficient. I would absolutely recommend this hotel based on its location and hospitality.

We stayed at this hotel and attended a smashing holiday party at the Depot. The ice skating rink was converted into a party place and decorated with ice sculptures. The hotel was lovely, quiet and elegantly decorated. We loved it.

We stayed at The Depot this past weekend on a couples getaway to the Vikings/Eagles game. We booked a package deal that included breakfast buffet, waterpark passes, and free internet and parking. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Depot Renaissance. The room, as well as the rest of the hotel, was clean and lovely. Our room had a nice view of downtown, and the staff was incredibly helpful and friendly, going the extra mile to make sure our experience was a good one.

The waterpark area was smaller than a typical waterpark (keep in mind that's not the main purpose of this hotel, it's just an added perk), but nice just the same. How smart to have adult space above the waterpark so parents don't have to be down in the wet areas but can still monitor their children. The hot tub was large and just the right temp and the lifeguards were plentiful. The skating rink was also a pleasant find, and many people of all ages were out enjoying the ice. The only thing we wished was different was the water park schedule. We stayed for a long weekend, leaving on Monday, and we really would have enjoyed spending more time in the hot tub Sunday afternoon/evening, as well as Monday morning.

The bar area had a great atmosphere, with a nice selection of local beers and specialty liquors, as well as a knowledgeable staff. The breakfast buffet was delicious and incredibly filling. All in all, it was a wonderful time. We are definitely coming back on our next trip to the Twin Cities!

Room Tip: Package deals are the way to go to get the most out of your money.

Much like many Renaissances, the Depot has a lot of local charm and unique decor. The rooms are a little more standard than I've seen at other Renessances, in other words more like a Marriott. But overall nice sized rooms, clean and comfortable. One of the best hotel beds I've had, and I travel 40+ weeks out of the year. The best beds!
Workout room is a little lacking. Underground parking is a nice bonus when staying in winter.

We stayed here for a company Christmas party and had a great time! The rooms were awesome. The breakfast was so good but the best part was the ice skating rink for which the party was held. Yup, I said the rink was where the party was held. They transformed the rink into a full on party and dance room.

This is another good example (of several I have stayed at) of a Marriott hotel that reuses a historic building and results in character and a pleasant retro ambience. Overall a very nice one-night business trip stop that begged for a longer stay. The rooms have more scenic views than the typical downtown Minneapolis hotel where the view is another office tower. The Guthrie Theater was a four-block walk. A minor downside was the missing downtown vibe being several blocks from the downtown center.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the river are more scenic.

We spent the Thanksgiving weekend at the Depot. This was our first stay at this hotel but have been to MPLS many times. There were two adults and one child, and we were upgraded to a suite because my husband is a frequent Marriott guest. The suite is perfect for a family as the couch is a sofa bed. The bathroom, large with great shower, is on that side of suite with French doors to master ( no bathroom). I would highly recommend requesting " old" side of depot, each room is unique and even the hallways seem authentically antique. Rooms were quite, even with road outside window. Service was friendly and responsive. Room service was excellent as well. Only issues were no safe in room, two lights and broken make-up mirror and one bathrobe. The staff offered to fix all but without a safe we didn't want people in and out of room. Ice rink was large and decent , although ice not surfaced enough if you are a figure skater, fine for general population. It's a few blocks to downtown restaurants, which can seem like a loooong walk in 9 degree weather, but in normal weather, easily accessible. Downtown MPLS had several great, fun restaurants and the 8 floor Holiday Display ( a longtime tradition for MPLS ) is well worth the trip. I wish there were more shops, Saks and Neiman Marcus closed as did many others but if you are looking for a family fun weekend downtown, I would highly recommend the Depot. Last point- it is incredibly reasonably priced ! Also has water park but did not see it. Also , self park, valet will help with luggage but lot right at hotel ( adjoined to Residence Inn).
