my husband and i stayed here over labor day just for a night - it was another wonderful kimpton experience! The staff is so professional and accommodating, and the rooms are always top notch.

the only kind of annoying thing - when travelling for business i don't mind valeting but as this was personal i was hoping there would be an inexpensive parking option for our car. We tried 4 or 5 garages nearby and they were all only a few dollar savings over the $30 valet option. So we did the valet and it worked out totally fine... just a tip for other travelers not to spend the time/energy searching around - just go for the valet and then relax in this awesome hotel!

Thank you for the wonderful review! We are so pleased that you and your husband enjoyed your time with us. Yes, downtown Minneapolis parking is pricey. I apologize for the inconvenience and wish there was an alternative. We look forward to seeing you again next time you're in town!

We have stayed in Kimpton properties in San Francisco, Seattle, Portland and Chicago for years and have always enjoyed our stays. When Kimpton came to our hometown, Minneapolis, we decided to give The Grand Hotel a try to compare it with other Kimpton experiences.

First of all, with the exception of the lobby, the decor is not as far out (not a bad thing) as other properties. Maybe it's the perception that Minneapolis is a more conservative market, but I would
have liked to see a little more of the Kimpton quirky design in the rooms.

We booked a king suite which had a roomy living area and bath, but the bedroom was narrow with minimal clearance at the foot of the bed. One window overlooked a very strange atrium which was rather bleak and characterless. As other reviews have mentioned, the air handling system (a/c and heat) is very noisy with the fan cycling off and on at a very short interval which is rather distracting. However, overall, everything was very clean and in good condition, but lacking some of the quirky design details of other Kimpton properties.

We participated in the wine hour from 5-6pm and could choose from red or white California wine or watermelon sangria. Asian chicken salad was also available as a complimentary appetizer.

Rare, the hotel restaurant, was our choice for dinner and we were not sorry. We split a 28 oz
ribeye which was better than any we've had at Minneapolis steakhouses including Capital Grille,
Manny's or Murrays--and for $24 it was a steal. Unfortunately it wasn't very busy, but it was a holiday weekend, so that may explain it. Also, it's a little hard to find on the 2nd floor, but definitely worth trying.

It was fun seeing dogs as guests in a downtown Minneapolis hotel--everything from Rottweilers to Boston Terriers! Reception mentioned that The Grand is thinking of adding an in-house "hotel dog" like other Kimpton properties. This is a great concept for people who want to travel with their furry buddies.

Kimpton, you're a great addition to the Minneapolis downtown scene!

Room Tip: On slow or holiday weekends the king suites are a very good bargain.

Thank you for the warm welcome and your loyalty to Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants! Yes, the decor of our guest rooms isn't quite as quirky as some of our other hotels. The designer tried to preserve some of the traditional feel of the old Grand Hotel. I'm glad you enjoyed our complimentary wine hour and dinner at Rare. It's true, we have toyed with the idea of getting a lobby dog or what we like to call a Director of Pet Relations. Our employees sometimes bring their dogs to work, which is a lot of fun! Thanks for the great review!

Stayed here for 3 nights in August 2012. The price of the queen bed room was $125 plus tax per night. We arrived early and our luggage was stored for us. When we were able to get into the room, we had been upgraded to a king bed. The room itself was not very large but the bathroom was and good closet space. My only complaint with the room was the lack of outlets for cell phones /computer. Had to plug in in the bathroom. The staff here are incredible! Go above and beyond. The main reason we chose the Grand was for the pool/gym access which is free. Location is great. Near the light rail and bus stops. Will definitely stay here again.

Very disappointed with this hotel. The building is pretty and the staff was wonderful, but I'm sorry to say the was the highlight of our stay. Some of the ceiling had stained ceiling tiles, and most of the furniture was damaged. We upgraded to the executive atrium view which was about $30.00 extra. It was smaller then the standered room and it had a view of the adjacent buildings brick wall. The extra blanket was stained with what looked to be blood.

Room Tip: I have stayed at the Crown plaza across the street, and it was much nicer and about $45.00 less

We traveled to Minneapolis recently and stayed at The Grand Hotel after getting a deal from an internet hotel website. This is a wonderful hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our standard room was larger than any other hotel chain and the bathroom was huge. The architecture was old-school and beautiful. I wish I had visited the health club - it looked great.

The bed was very soft, a little too soft for my personal preference, but others will probably find it quite comfortable.

The Grand Hotel doesn't feel like a chain hotel. In fact, none of the other Kimpton Hotels I have stayed in have felt like a chain. Each is unique and always quite beautiful.

Good job!

Room Tip: Location is very cental in downtown Minneapolis, walking distance to Metrodome and convention center...

Huge room and bathroom. Very nicely appointed. TV next to tub! Hotel staff excellent and catered to our every need. Hotel gym is a Lifetime fitness center with pool, b-ball court, classes and any type of exercise equipment you could want. Will definitely stay again the next time in Minneapolis. Also, very centrally located to many museums, dining, entertainment, etc.
