“Beautiful hotel!”
Reviewed August 11, 2011

I was upgraded to a corner suite for a big birthday I had told the hotel I was having. Upon returning from the spa, I found a silver tray of chocolate covered cherries waiting for me with birthday greetings from the manager. It provided the quite getaway I was hoping for.

My husband and I stayed here for two nights in July, and it was a wonderful time! We checked in around 6 pm, and were told that we'd been upgraded to a suite, instead of the king room I'd booked on the hotel website (they have fairly normal rates for a hotel of this type, and some good specials). I don't know if we got bumped up because we were checking in a little later and the regular rooms were taken, or if it was because I am a Kimpton In-Touch member, or just plain luck, but I'm not complaining a bit! The room (on the 9th floor) was large; one room had a couch, flat screen tv, desk and chair, and the other room had a king sized bed and a sitting chair, another tv, and the bathroom was off of that room. The bed was comfy and the room had nice lighting. The bathroom was very large, with marble sink and ceramic tile floor, and a very nice tub and shower. There was a mini-bar area between the two rooms, with really nice snacks and drinks, which we didn't use simply because of the cost.
The rooms were very clean.
We had drinks at the bar both nights, and the cocktails were very well made. In the lobby area, there is complimentary coffee in the a.m., and wine in the evenings.
The staff were great--professional, nice, and knowledgeable.
The only difficult part--if you can even call it that--was locating the valet stand. It's on the corner around from the hotel entry, before you get to the hotel. It was a little tricky the first time!

Stayed at this hotel for a conference the only downside was the walk to the convention center, but seeing were some of the others were staying it was worth the walk. Check in was fast and friendly and the room was nice clean and very comfortable bed.

Ended up booking here because it was a last minute trip but I'll definitely be back the next time in Minneapolis. It's an older hotel, but the rooms have been renovated. Spacious two room suite, with all the amenities you would expect. Rooms are well furnished, not your standard prefab furniture, but interesting eclectic stuff. Great lobby bar with a reception every evening and great helpfull staff everywhere that I encountered.

The is the second time we have stayed at the Grand Hotel and have been very pleased both times. The rooms are very comfortable and the bathroom was huge (we had a king room) with a separate shower, bathtub (with a TV), and large counter for 2 sets of toiletries. The beds are as comfortable as the ones at the Four Seasons or Ritz-Carlton's (which is how I measure bed comfort). The health center is available to guests and is *huge* with multiple machines, racketball courts and the pool in the basement and locker rooms are outstanding. This is our go-to place in Minneapolis and within walking distance to the Twin's stadium and downtown restaurants. Eat at Key's for breakfast (a Twin Cities institution) just a couple blocks away. Bar la Grassa on north Washington avenue was also fantastic (a short cab ride away), wonderful Italian food.

I have stayed at the Grand on multiple occasions now (because it is so good) for both work and pleasure and under different management (we actually were there the day it transferred to Kimpton). The service and rooms are exceedingly excellent. And if you use Priceline to get a room (which I have managed a few times), the value for money can be incredibly good. They know you, offer you a choice of newspapers, are happy to describe the facilities, want you to use the incredibly good gym (it's actually a proper Lifetime Fitness that was the old Minneapolis Athletic Club), encourage you to come down for happy hour (the wine is quite respectable), have free WiFi (you don't always get this with hotels when you are traveling on business or personal), gorgeous rooms, lovely bathroom and a staff that makes you think "Minnesota nice" is an understatement. There are only two real downsides: (1) the hotel is that is a few blocks from the Lightrail (if you're traveling from the airport), and this can make a difference in winter, and (2) the valet parking is a bit odd as it's on the side of the building, but it is totally doable. I encourage people to take advantage of this unique hotel and it's approach to service.

Outstanding Hotel. We had asked for early check in - They got us in by 11am. Couple small issues with room, they fixed the next day when we notified them immediately. Outstanding Staff. The resturant on the second floor was excellent. We had breakfast there every morning and supper there twice. All staff were very professional and friendly. The bartenders were extremely good. We visitied them 4 times over our 6 night stay. We had a lot of great laughs. Very nice room. Gym was excellent. We didn't use because we were on vacation but had we, it woudl have been awesome. :-) You will not be dissapointed with this hotel. Minneapolis is an amazing city and this hotel is the same. Go Twins...

Room Tip: We stayed on the 14th floor, amazaing
