I love this restaurant because it doesn't advertise its "Italianess". No scenic murals on the wall or Italian flag colors on the tablecloths, and no black and white photos of a little bambino learning to make bread at his grandfather's bakery.
But the food is what one would expect to eat if one went to a good restaurant in Italy. The chef IS Italian, and the food is simple and excellent. No frou frou plates here, just good honest food.
I had the chef sampler and it was delicious. The pesto tasted like pesto, and the Ahi tuna with the avocado/yogurt sauce was to die for. And the tomato dishes aren't drowning in tomato sauce like in so many other restaurants.
My only mistake was having a martini with the food. Next time I'm sticking with the wine so as not to mute all the flavors in the dishes.
The staff was very attentive yet casual; no snobbiness here...just good Italian food.
