Owner description: THE GUTHRIE THEATER is an American center for theater performance, production, education and professional training, known for its dynamic productions of classic and contemporary plays. Open to the public year-round, this award-winning cultural destination houses three theaters, dramatic public spaces and distinctive dining. Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel, the Guthrie is located in the historic Mill District of Downtown Minneapolis and features a 175-foot cantilever bridge which overlooks the Mississippi River. When it opened in 2006 Time magazine called the building "a 21st century dream factory." Visit the Guthrie to see a show, grab a cup of coffee and explore the building, shop at the Guthrie Store, or to simply take in the extraordinary riverfront views. Backstage tours are Friday and Saturday mornings.

“Good theater”
Reviewed October 28, 2013

I liked the ambiance of the theater. They seem to have good food in the restaurants as they were packed, but being a vegetarian, I did not find anything suitable for me.

“Gorgeous theatre”
Reviewed October 22, 2013

I loved the old Guthrie, but I really love the new one. The proscenium theatre is pretty, but the put the seats too close together, if you are over 5'8". I have to sit on the aisle, or I physically can't sit down. However, the thrust theatre is a bit better than the old Guthrie, and I love it. The experimental theatre on the top floor is wonderful, and the lobby areas are gigantic, spacious, modern, and a joy. The views from the windows & on the endless bridge are jaw dropping, and the bar service is efficient & friendly. They will sell you intermission drinks ahead of time, to spare you waiting in line, and are always smiling and enjoying their jobs. The shop on the ground floor is always entertaining, and the box office is wonderful. My only issue is with the restaurant, Sea Change. The food is overpriced and terrible.

“Outstanding Theater Experience”
Reviewed October 16, 2013

Not only does the Guthrie offer outstanding performances, but the theater itself is wonderful. Located on the Mississippi River (be sure to walk out and enjoy the view from "the bridge") the building is architecturally perfect for theater from seating to acoustics. Go!

“The building is a show in itself!!!”
Reviewed October 15, 2013

Of course attending a play or performance at the Guthrie is exceptional. It's also worth to go just to see the beautiful architecture of the building and the emotion that the building delivers. This Jean Nouvel masterpiece is not to be missed.
